Tua Tagovailoa has now signed what the Miami Dolphins hope will be one of several lucrative contracts throughout his professional football career.

On Tuesday, the former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback signed a rookie four-year deal worth a fully guaranteed $30.28 million, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoort.

The Dolphins selected Tagovailoa with the No. 5 selection in last month's draft. There were countless reports that Miami would end up taking Oregon product Justin Herbert with the pick, and that they were concerned about Tagovailoa's injury woes.

But that didn't end up being the case. The Dolphins, who haven't had a franchise-changing quarterback since the Dan Marino days, decided they couldn't pass on Tagovailoa's tremendous skill set and high ceiling.

Many believed that Tagovailoa would pose a threat to LSU quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow for the first overall pick in 2020. But the former suffered a scary season-ending hip injury that ended his final season of college football.

Following Tagovailoa's injury, it became overly obvious that the Cincinnati Bengals would take Burrow with the top selection. Some even believed that Tagovailoa would fall outside the top 10, but the Dolphins ultimately decided to take the risk.

Tagovailoa will join a Miami team that began a massive rebuilding phase last year. They hired Brian Flores as the new head coach while trading away big-named players such as Ryan Tannehill, Kenyan Drake, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Kenny Stills and Laremy Tunsil.

But the Dolphins decided to get aggressive this offseason, signing Shaq Lawson, Byron Jones and Kyle Van Noy to bolster their defense. They also traded for 1,000-yard running back Jordan Howard via the Philadelphia Eagles to bolster the backfield. With Tagovailoa now in the fold, Miami figures to be a lot more competitive.

Tagovailoa's rookie deal comes three days after the Carolina Panthers agreed to a four-year, $23.621 million contract with Derrick Brown - the No. 8 selection in this year's draft. Expect plenty of more rookie deals to be reached in the coming weeks.
