You know things are bad when your No. 1 celebrity superfan harshly criticizes you as a "laughingstock."

But such is the case with the New York Knicks, who are once again near the very bottom of the league standings. While James Dolan continues to receive immense backlash and calls to sell the team, he now has a PR problem to deal with.

Spike Lee, one of the most renowned sports celebrity fans, was denied entry for Monday's home game at Madison Square Garden against the Houston Rockets. You can see a video of the incident, which has since gone viral:

The Knicks released a statement that said he was simply asked "not to use" the employee entrance, and that Lee was "welcome" as long as he used the VIP or regular entrance. The statement also said that he and Dolan "shook hands" following the incident.

However, Lee denied that a handshake ever took place between he and Dolan, per Sopan Deb of the New York Times. Not only that, but Lee went as far as to calling his beloved Knicks the NBA's laughingstock.

"Whats laughable is how the Knicks are the laughingstock of the league in sports," Lee said, per Deb. "That's what's (expletive) laughable.

The term "rock bottom" has been applied to the Knicks many times over the past decade or so, but having a beloved and admired fan rip you this much? That, along with the many cries for Dolan to sell the team, have made 2019-20 the ultimate "rock bottom" season for the Knicks.

Nine months ago, the Knicks thought they'd come away with one or two superstars in the dream 2019 free agent class. The likes of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant were heavily rumored to join the Knicks, but they both wound up joining the Brooklyn Nets instead. And the Knicks have no concrete long-term plan in place.

Lee has also vowed that he won't be attending any more Knicks home games this season, but he will be back in 2020-21. Hopefully, the Knicks will give Lee and their millions of fans something to cheer about then.
