Sunday's Wild Card Round playoff game between the New Orleans Saints and Chicago Bears brought in excellent ratings numbers on CBS and Nickelodeon.

In a press release, ViacomCBS announced that the Saints-Bears game averaged 30.653 million viewers across the two networks, with the combined viewership peaking at 33.625 million viewers.

The press release also stated that this was CBS' most-watched Sunday Wild Card playoff game in seven years. The San Diego Chargers-Cincinnati Bengals game from the 2013 season had 30.882 million viewers.

This was also the most-watched game on Wild Card Weekend, the press release stated.

The Bears-Saints game was broadcast in a standard format on CBS with the network's lead NFL commentary team of Jim Nantz and Tony Romo. The broadcast on Nickelodeon was called by Noah Eagle and former NFL wide receiver Nate Burleson.

The Nickelodeon broadcast featured graphics of Spongebob Squarepants and appearances from All That Stars Lex Lumpkin and Gabrielle Nevaeh Green.

The press release also noted that the game marked Nickelodeon's "most-watched program among total viewers in nearly four years."

2020 marked the first season for the NFL's expanded 14-team playoff format. An additional wild card spot was added to each league, with only the top seed in each conference receiving first-round byes.

The Saints defeated the Bears 21-9 to advance to the Divisional Round. They will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, with the winner moving on to the NFC Championship Game.

The other NFC Divisional Round matchup will see the Los Angeles Rams take on the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. In the AFC, the Baltimore Ravens will visit the Buffalo Bills, while the defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs prepare to host the Cleveland Browns, who are coming off their first playoff win since 1994.

Ratings for the 2020 NFL regular season were down from last year  2019.  The regular season games averaged 15.4 million compared to 16.5 and 15.8 million in 2019 and 2018, respectively.
