The final game of the 2020 NFL season scored excellent viewership numbers for NBC.

The Washington Football Team defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 20-14 on Sunday Night Football to clinch the NFC East division title.

According to a report from TVInsider, the game had 14.7 million viewers for the 8:30 p.m. EST slot, with a 4.1 rating in the 18-49 adult demographic. The viewership was reportedly down to 14.5 million viewers in the 9:00 p.m. slot, and 12.6 million viewers for the 10:00 p.m. slot.

Washington and Philadelphia play in two of the country's biggest markets, so viewership is always expected to be high when they play in primetime games. Of course, the major implications in this game helped with the excellent ratings.

However, this was down considerably from the Week 16 Sunday Night Football broadcast between the Tennessee Titans and Green Bay Packers, which reportedly garnered 18.37 million viewers (per Sports Media Watch).

The week before, the Cleveland Browns-New York Giants late night game had 15.61 million viewers, via Sports Media Watch. Per the website, every Sunday Night Football game on NBC reached over 10 million viewers this season.

Had Washington lost, the New York Giants would have won the NFC East with a 6-10 record. Instead, the Ron Rivera and Chase Young-led Washington Football Team are headed to the postseason with a 7-9 record.

They will face Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round this Saturday on NBC. Washington hadn't appeared on any Sunday night games in 2020 before Week 17. Now, they'll appear on NBC's prime time program for the second straight week.

As for the Eagles, the loss dropped them to 4-11-1 for the 2020 season, last in the NFC East after winning the division a year ago. This was their third Sunday Night Football appearance on the year, having also been featured in Week 4 against the San Francisco 49ers and in Week 8 against the Dallas Cowboys.
