Patrick Mahomes has led the Kansas City Chiefs to their second consecutive AFC Championship Game, and the 2018 league MVP is about to receive a giant award for his performances.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport (h/t Grant Gordon of NFL.com), Mahomes and the Chiefs will likely agree to a "mammoth" extension. Rapoport noted that the expectation is for the deal to make Mahomes the league's highest-paid player.

After the Chiefs drafted Mahomes in the first round three years ago, he agreed to a four-year rookie contract. Though his deal includes a fifth-year option, as noted by Gordon, Mahomes and the Kansas City front office are keen on avoiding that.

Instead, he'll soon sign a mega contract that will most certainly be north of $100 million.

Over the last two years alone, a handful of Pro Bowl-caliber quarterbacks have inked extensions north of $100 million. The Los Angeles Rams and Jared Goff recently agreed to a four-year pact worth $134 million, with all but $24 million of it guaranteed.

This came several months after the Philadelphia Eagles and Carson Wentz agreed to a whopping four-year pact worth $128 million. Before Wentz signed the new deal, Russell Wilson was handed a $140 million extension over four years from the Seattle Seahawks.

But Mahomes is by far the best quarterback in the NFL right now, so it's easy to believe that his deal can get past the $150 million mark. The reigning NFL MVP missed two starts this season, but he still managed 4,031 passing yards and 26 touchdowns against just five interceptions.

Mahomes has dazzled with his incredible deep arm, pinpoint accuracy and mobility in the pocket. The NFL has never seen a player with his all-around skill set, and he's only 24 years of age. Mahomes is set to dominate for a long, long time, and the Chiefs surely know he's deserving of a record-setting deal.
