The Milwaukee Brewers are reportedly closing in on a mega deal with their franchise star.

According to multiple reports, the NL Central club and All-Star outfielder Christian Yelich are nearing an extension worth around $200 million.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic (subscription required) reported that the deal will be nine-year pact "in the $215 million range." The expectation, according to Rosenthal, is that the contract will be announced this Friday.

ESPN's Jeff Passan also reported that Yelich's new deal will be something close to $215 million, and it will run through 2028.

But according to Bob Nightengale and Jesse Yomtov of USA Today reported that the Yelich deal will be for seven years worth $188.5 million.

At any rate, the Brewers are about to lock up their franchise star for the remainder of his prime years, and it's obviously a huge step for an organization that rarely hands out giant contracts, let alone nine-figure deals.

As Nightengale noted, Yelich is under contract for two more years; he signed a seven-year pact worth a modest $49.57 million with the Miami Marlins before the 2015 season. In two years, Yelich will no longer be on one of the league's best bargain contracts, but rather deservedly paid as a top-tier superstar.

Yelich's extension will come just a couple of weeks after owner Mark Attanasio admitted that the team had an operating loss during the 2019 season, even though they made the playoffs while finishing eighth in league attendance.

Milwaukee acquired Yelich in a blockbuster trade with Miami in Jan. 2018, and he enjoyed quite the breakout year with his new team. Yelich earned his first All-Star selection and the aforementioned 2018 NL MVP award after guiding Milwaukee all the way to Game 7 of the NLCS, where they lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers. He earned a second All-Star selection in 2019 after batting .329 with 44 home runs and 97 RBI, helping the Brewers nab the second wild card spot in the NL.
