Olympic gold medalist Bode Miller has tragically lost his daughter in a freak pool accident.
Former Olympic alpine skier Bode Miller and wife Morgan Miller are utterly devastated at the loss of their 19-month old daughter.
"We are beyond devastated,” Miller wrote on his Instagram. “Our baby girl, Emmy, passed away yesterday. Never in a million years did we think we would experience a pain like this. Her love, her light, her spirit will never be forgotten. Our little girl loved life and lived it to its fullest every day. Our family respectfully requests privacy during this painful time."
We are beyond devastated. Our baby girl, Emmy, passed away yesterday. Never in a million years did we think we would experience a pain like this. Her love, her light, her spirit will never be forgotten. Our little girl loved life and lived it to it’s fullest everyday. Our family respectfully requests privacy during this painful time.
In an Instagram posted Monday, Miller confirmed the death while also showing Emmy in playing with the family dog, having a bath with her brother, Nash, and saying “hello dada” after being kissed by Morgan multiple times. The same post was also made to Morgan’s Instagram account.
The tragedy occurred last Saturday. According to Captain Steve Concialdi of the Orange County Fire Authority, who spoke to E! News, a call came to 911 at around 6:30 PM.
"The mother of the child was at a neighbor's house and somehow the little girl got away for a short amount of time," said Concialdi. "When the mother realized it, she went directly to the backyard and found her daughter in the pool. She was able to pull her daughter out. 911 was immediately called. CRP was initiated by people already at the scene."
Emmy was transported to Mission Hospital in cardiac arrest. She lingered on with mechanical assistance but was pronounced dead on Sunday.
It is unknown at this time if an autopsy will be performed to confirm the cause of death. No foul play is suspected.
The former Olympic champion later thanked midwives Lindsey Meehleis and Courtney Ellis for their support during this emotional period for the family.
A GoFundMe has been set up for the family to assist with funeral services as well as the medical bills for Emmy’s day-long fight for life, with all proceeds going to the Miller family.
