There was once a time when the only things that were known about the professional wrestlers that were seen on screen, were the things that WWE told their fans about. The invention of the internet and the rise of social media has meant that now there is no such thing as privacy in professional wrestling anymore. This means that some WWE stars have shared way more information with the WWE Universe than they probably should have and now they can't take it back. Social media defines the reputation of many wrestlers and it seems that since they are given this reputation it's hard for them to overcome it.
There are a number of WWE superstars both past and present that the WWE Universe has been embarrassed for and almost ashamed of when it comes to some of the things that they have said and done over the past few years. This issue now is that when a superstar is released from the company, they aren't completely out of the spotlight and seemingly continue to make their fanbase even more embarrassed than they were before. This is mostly thanks to social media and the fact that no one is ever technically out of the spotlight anymore. The following list looks at just 15 current and former WWE superstars who have or still do embarrass the WWE Universe due to their actions either inside or outside of the WWE ring over the past few years.
Lana was hired by WWE following the 2013 Diva Search and even though she didn't win the competition WWE saw something in her and aligned her with Rusev in NXT and the couple later went on to marry and become a popular duo on WWE's main roster.
Over the past year, Lana has been part of a number matches on WWE TV after she decided to learn to wrestle and compete on the SmackDown brand. It seems that even though Lana hasn't been training as long as many of the women on the current roster she seems to think that she is owed everything. Lana had the audacity to bring up the fact that Natalya isn't good at promos even though Lana herself can't wrestle and Nattie is a 12-year veteran. Lana's attitude at times makes many fans of the company cringe. It seems that the Total Divas star is in dire need of a dose of reality.
14 Alicia Fox
When it comes to the WWE Women's Division it seems that there will always be a weak link and that's former Divas Champion Alicia Fox. The botches that she has made in the ring over the past year alone should have been enough for WWE to make the decision to either sent her to NXT or release her from her contract.
Alicia was signed as a model and taught how to wrestle and has never really been relevant or reached a point where she could be taken seriously. Alicia makes many of the WWE Universe cringe no matter what match she is involved in and has a knack for being able to bring down the tempo with just one move. Alicia hasn't been on Total Divas for the past few seasons either so it is still unknown as to how she has managed to retain her job over the past year.
13 Vince McMahon
The WWE Universe will always disagree when it comes to the superstars of WWE, but it seems that the one thing they can agree on is the fact that they can't wait until Vince McMahon hands his company over to Triple H so that it can finally break out of this vicious circle.
Many fans think that Vince is both the best and worst thing that ever happened to wrestling and even though he has had the business on lockdown over the past few decades it seems that his ideas have finally become outdated. McMahon is one of the biggest reasons as to why WWE hasn't been able to properly progress and why many stars are still being held back. Sometimes it's embarrassing to see the things that McMahon says and does because he still believes that his sexist opinions matter and even though they shouldn't, shockingly, they do.
Many of the WWE Universe will remember Gangrel for his time as part of The Brood with Edge and Christian. The group had the gimmick of three vampires in a time when the supernatural creatures were considerably popular. Gangrel was the only member of the group that didn't go on to have a successful WWE career because he was released from the company after his shirt came open partway through a match and Vince McMahon was said to have been so upset about this that he fired him.
Gangrel isn't someone that many of the WWE Universe even talk about anymore since it was reported that the former wrestler has since moved on to a career as a director of adult movies. Gangrel signed a deal with an adult film company and went on to direct 12 different adult films following his WWE release, which is not really something that fit in with WWE's PG banner.
11 Brock Lesnar
Brock Lesnar is in one of the best positions in the company right now, but it seems that many in the WWE Universe don't feel as though he deserves it. Brock is a part-time star and shouldn't be in such a prominent position when there are many other stars who could take his place at a fraction of the price.
Lesnar is someone who has been given main event level matches for the past few years at the expense of younger talent that could have used it as a stepping stone into something much bigger. Many of the WWE Universe hate the fact that Lesnar is in his current position and can't wait until his contract runs out later this year so that he will no longer be the main focus of everything in the company. Of course, this isn't Lesnar's fault; he negotiated his contract and WWE agreed, but he is the one who is given the heat for it.
10 Eva Marie
WWE made the popular decision earlier this year to terminate Eva Marie's WWE contract after more than a year of her being contracted but not actually appearing ever since she was suspended for violating the WWE Wellness Policy back in August 2016.
Eva wasn't someone that ever cared about being a wrestler. She used the company to get a deal to appear in a number of movies since she now has the same agent as The Rock. She was given more chances than the other women who have worked their entire life to be there and still wasn't improving in the ring. The WWE Universe hated her and having her in the company was an embarrassment to the WWE and the fact that the company was attempting to push forward on a Women's Revolution. The women have been much better off ever since she left. She was never someone who was going to make it far in WWE anyway.
9 Bray Wyatt
Bray Wyatt is someone that the WWE Universe has been backing for the past few years since it seems that the company refuses to push him to the level that many thought that he deserved.
Wyatt may be a fan favourite, but earlier this year it was revealed that The Eater of Worlds had been indulging in extracurricular activities with Raw Ring Announcer JoJo Offerman even though he was married with two children. This has obviously affected the way that many fans have seen Bray and the attention that his divorce has received is probably one of the reasons why the company has been reluctant to push him to the main level of the company over the past few months. Affairs in WWE happen all the time, but the fact that Bray threw away his family and children on a decision to embark a relationship with JoJo is something many fans are finding hard to understand.
8 Nikki Bella
Nikki Bella is a former Divas Champion, but she is someone who never actually wanted to be a wrestler. Nikki and her sister Brie wanted to be models or actresses and thanks to WWE the twins have been able to become both.
Nikki has improved in the ring over the past few years but as part of Total Bellas and Total Divas is seems that there is no limit to how far Nikki is willing to go to ensure ratings for the show. Some of the things that both Nikki and Brie have admitted over the past few years when it comes to their personal life is actually quite embarrassing. Their family is part of the show and don't need to know the intimate details of their private life. It seems that The Bellas will always be a throwback to the old days of the WWE Divas and it could be time for the women themselves to accept that and stop trying to be controversial to remain relevant.
7 CM Punk
It isn't so much CM Punk that is embarrassing the WWE Universe at this point, but more the fact that many fans refuse to admit that the former World Champion isn't returning to the company anytime soon. It has been four years since Punk walked away and he has since made the switch over to a career in UFC, but fans still feel the need to hang on.
This week's Raw and SmackDown shows were presented live from Chicago made history as they were broadcast on Christmas Day for the first time in WWE history, but it seems that the hometown crowd only cared about chanting for CM Punk and ruining the show throughout. This embarrasses many of the other members of the WWE Universe because they are aware that Punk has moved on and are trying to appreciate the talent that still wants to be part of the company.
6 Alberto Del Rio
Alberto Del Rio was once a World Champion in WWE but was fired from the company back in 2014 after an altercation with a member of the backstage staff. Del Rio was shockingly rehired by the WWE in 2015 and then embarked on a relationship with Charlotte.
Del Rio later revealed that he was in a relationship with former Divas Champion Paige before what can only be described as the worst year of both stars careers. Del Rio and Paige have been the centre of many news stories over the past 12 months but thankfully their relationship came to an end a few weeks before Paige returned to WWE TV, but it seems that Del Rio is still continuing to work on the Independent Circuit knowing that his relationship with Paige could have destroyed her career. Many of the WWE Universe have stepped away from Del Rio and his career over the past few months following this.
5 Bret Hart
Bret Hart walked away from WWE following Survivor Series back in 1997 after the infamous Montreal Screwjob and then went on to join WCW. While Bret has managed to put his problems with Vince McMahon and Shawn Michaels behind him over the past decade, it seems that he still feels the need to vocalize what he feels some of the main issues in the company are.
Bret has taken a dislike to Seth Rollins over the past few years and unleashed a number of harsh accusations his way when it comes to some of the injuries that happened at the hands of Rollins in 2015 and 2016. It isn't just Rollins who Hart has aimed his silver tongue at either since Triple H has been a target of the former WWE Champion as well. It seems that Hart has become quite bitter since he can no longer wrestle, which is why he attempts to insult the men who are still able to.
4 Hulk Hogan
Hulk Hogan will always be seen as one of the biggest stars that WWE has ever created, but that doesn't mean that he hasn't had his own fair share of issues over the past few years when it comes to his personal life.
Hogan's biggest problem came back in 2015 when a private tape was leaked online by Gawker and some of the audio that was heard in this tape was deemed racist. WWE backed themselves away from Hogan and the comments that he made and he has since been released by WWE and the company has refused to acknowledge him for the past few years. Hogan has sued Gawker since and received more than $110 million when he won the court case. It seems that Hogan has been through a number of issues over the past few years but it seems that Hogan has yet to take back any of the comments that he made in the tape, even though rumours suggest that WWE could be bringing him back to the company soon.
3 Enzo Amore
Enzo Amore has been one of the most controversial WWE superstars ever since he made his debut in the company a few years ago. Since he was promoted to the main roster back in 2016 Enzo has been known to have been kicked off the WWE tour bus, out of the WWE locker room and then gaining so much heat from the Raw locker room that he was moved over to 205 Live.
Enzo has also cheated on his long-time girlfriend Liv Morgan and been seen throwing money around on some of the strangest things, including a ticket to Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather earlier this year. It seems that every other week there is a story about Enzo and his antics outside of the ring and now it has reached the point where the WWE Universe is completely ashamed of some of the things that he has actually done over the past few months.
Ryback is a former Intercontinental Champion in WWE who decided to walk away from the company last year after a lengthy post on Tumblr about how WWE's payscale between superstars who were winning or losing the main event was unfair.
Since his departure from WWE, it seems that Ryback has made it his mission to share all of the secrets of the business on his weekly podcast, even though he has been pulled up as a liar a number of times in recent months. When Ryback was in WWE there were reports that many of the superstars backstage avoided him and the company itself ignored his social media updates since they rarely ever made sense. It seems that many of the WWE Universe have now begun taking everything that Ryback says with a pinch of salt since it seems to be a new story surrounding the former WWE star on a weekly basis.
Sunny is widely considered to be the first ever WWE Diva and was once an incredible manager when it came to leading her teams to Championship gold. Sunny was also part of WWE when the women weren't seen as much more than eye candy, which could be why her career came to such an abrupt end back in the 1990s.
Sunny was well-known for her backstage antics while she was part of WWE and it seems that ever since she left the company she has decided to share much more than any of her fans ever wanted to know. Sunny's recent admissions on social media and in interviews have caused many of the WWE Universe to take a step back away from the WWE Hall of Famer, especially considering the fact that she was once charging fans for private Skype sessions and seemingly hit rock bottom a long time ago.
