Convenience is the thing that sparks many relationships and it seems that when WWE stars are forced to work together as part of a storyline, sometimes sparks can fly and the couple will more often than not become part of a real-life relationship as well. Over the past few decades, there have been a number of superstars who have been forced to work together on WWE TV and a personal relationship has then begun off the back of a friendship that the company created. Of course, not all of these relationships were made to last. A number of them have already come to an end since the couple realized that when they weren't being forced to work together, it wasn't the same.

Couples in WWE are revealed nearly every week, but the company has more control over the love lives of their wrestlers that they are given credit for. There have been a number of incidents where WWE have tried to break up couples by forcing them to work with other people, just to show who has the power but more often than not this tactic is unsuccessful.

The following list looks at 15 wrestling couples that were created after WWE put them together in a storyline. Every couple on this list was once forced to work together, but as well as being able to deliver great performances on WWE TV, they also managed to pick up a new spouse.

Rusev And Lana

Lana came to WWE through the 2013 Diva Search and already had a background in performing after working as an actress and a dancer for a number of years. She didn't win the contest, but WWE decided to sign her and use her performance background to build her into a manager. She was aligned with Alexander Rusev on NXT a few months later and the couple then went on to dominate both NXT and the main roster for a number of years.

The duo started dating just months after first working together and even though they have since been split up on-screen, they are happily married and in recent episodes of Total Divas, the couple has been discussing starting a family, something that Rusev is pushing much harder than his wife for. The company didn't like Rusev and Lana being together since Vince McMahon moved Lana over to work with Dolph Ziggler in the hopes that this would come between them, but it didn't.

Alexa Bliss And Buddy Murphy

Alexa Bliss came to WWE with no prior wrestling experience and throughout her time in NXT she wasn't given the chance to become a serious competitor in NXT. Instead, Alexa was aligned with Buddy Murphy and Wesley Blake and the trio became known as BAMF. Alexa helped the duo to NXT Tag Team Championship gold and during their time together they were able to start a relationship.

Buddy and Alexa announced their engagement in the spring of 2017 and over the past few months they have become faces of Total Divas where it has shown that the couple has a pet pig together called Larry Steve. Alexa has become a main star of the Women's Division on the main roster and is the current Raw Women's Champion, while Buddy Murphy only recently returned to TV after more than a year away to become part of the 205 Live roster.

John Cena And Mickie James

John Cena has quite the reputation when it comes to his personal life but he has finally recently been able to settle down with fellow WWE star Nikki Bella. Before John and Nikki started dating back in 2012, Cena was part of a number of scandals, the biggest one surrounding his relationship with Mickie James.

Cena and Mickie worked together on WWE TV, which saw them in a number of backstage segments and then led to the couple starting a relationship in real life. Mickie was engaged to Spirit Squad member Kenny Dysktra at the time and this then led to the end of her relationship and Dykstra was released from the company when the details became public. Mickie and John didn't remain together for long since he married his first wife Elizabeth the following year and Mickie then left WWE and went on to meet her husband Magnus while she was working for TNA.

Big Cass And Carmella

Big Cass was once part of a tag team alongside Enzo Amore on NXT TV before the duo were joined by Carmella who became quite popular as their manager. The current Miss Money In The Bank started dating Big Cass while they were working together on the developmental brand before their relationship became somewhat complicated.

Cass was promoted to the main roster without Carmella, but when she did follow a few months later she was sent to SmackDown while he remained on Raw. The couple tried to make their relationship work while they were no longer seen as an on-screen couple, but then Cass' recent knee injury became an issue of frustration for him. The couple revealed earlier this year that they had decided to go their separate ways, just weeks after buying a new house together and becoming the latest cast members to be added to Total Divas.

The Miz And Maryse

The "it couple"has become one of the stand out duo's in WWE in recent years, but that they are another couple that WWE created themselves. Miz and Maryse first met during The 2006 Diva Search where Miz was the host and he made the wrong kind of impression on his future wife when he criticized the fact that she couldn't speak English very well.

Fast forward a few years, and the two were put together on WWE TV and followed a storyline where Miz was trying to impress Maryse but wasn't actually able to. The couple became good friends after working together and then when Maryse left the company a few years later, their relationship intensified and they then married in 2014. They then announced back in 2017 that they were expecting their first child together, a daughter who is expected to arrive during WrestleMania weekend.

Stephanie McMahon And Triple H

The power couple of WWE, Stephanie McMahon and Triple H also worked together on WWE TV before they officially became a couple. At the time Triple H was in a relationship with Chyna who he was working with as part of DX, before WWE put the boss' daughter and one of the main D-Generation X members together in a memorable storyline.

Of course, this led to a relationship between Stephanie and Triple H, even though Vince McMahon had already forbidden his daughter from dating any of the wrestlers that he employed. Triple H managed to win over his future father-in-law and is now the COO of WWE, has been married to Stephanie for 15 years and the couple now has three daughters together. They are still able to retain their place on WWE TV where they will be an integral part of this year's WrestleMania.

Edge And Lita

This is perhaps one of the best-known stories in professional wrestling. Former Women's Champion Lita was in a relationship with Matt Hardy and the couple was seen as one of the most popular duos in the company at that time. That was until Matt became injured and WWE decided that rather than push Lita off-screen as well, they would rather Edge and Lita work together.

Their brief time together on-screen led to a relationship off-screen, which also led to one of the biggest love triangles in WWE history. The world found out about it and Hardy and Edge then entered a feud surrounding it, before Edge and Lita then became an on-screen couple until she announced her retirement the following year at the end of 2006, but ended their relationship a few months after their relationship was made public. Edge has since gone on to marry WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix, while Lita has had a number of other relationships over the past decade.

Daniel Bryan And Brie Bella

Daniel Bryan is one of the most popular wrestlers in WWE right now and he has always been a star that can win over the audience. When Bryan first arrived in WWE he was embroiled in a feud between The Bella Twins where both women were seen fighting over the former Champion. In the end, Bryan was seen backstage with Gail Kim and this ended the storyline between them.

It was during this time that Bryan and Brie struck up a relationship of their own, one that would later lead to a number of other storylines when Bryan became injured following WrestleMania 30. Brie and Bryan married back in 2014 and last year they welcomed their first child together, a daughter called Birdie Joe. Even though neither of the Bella Twins were able to win Bryan's heart on-screen, it was Brie who won his heart off-screen.

John Cena And Maria

John Cena has already been mentioned once on this list, but Mickie James isn't the only WWE Diva who managed to turn his head. Back in 2006 when Cena was embroiled in a feud with Edge and Lita he teamed up with Maria in order to defeat the duo and even shared a backstage kiss with the former Diva Search contestant.

Maria and Cena were then rumored to have started a fling backstage but like many of the other women that Cena was linked to during this time, it didn't last for long. Maria has since moved on to a relationship with Mike Bennett and the couple has recently announced that they are expecting their first child together. Cena is obviously now engaged to Nikki Bella and the couple is planning a huge wedding in the near future. It's incredible how much can change in 12 years.

AJ Lee And CM Punk

AJ Lee became known on WWE TV because of the fact that she was linked to a lot of wrestlers on-screen. AJ has storylines with John Cena, Dolph Ziggler, Kane, Daniel Bryan and even CM Punk while she was with WWE and the latter actually led to a real-life relationship.

Punk was in a relationship with Lita when he and AJ began working together on-screen but Lee admitted that the minute she kissed Punk for the first time as part of their storyline, she knew that he was the one. They had been friends for a long time but this was the turning point in their relationship. Even though the couple didn't get together for a while afterward, WWE pushing them together was exactly what they needed to give them the boost to go after a relationship themselves. This year will mark their fourth anniversary and four years since Punk left WWE.

Chyna And Triple H

Chyna was first introduced into WWE as the bodyguard for D-Generation X, the group that Triple H was one of the main members of, alongside Shawn Michaels. Chyna worked as Triple H's bodyguard mostly and it became well-known that the couple was actually a real-life couple, that was until the storyline changed and Chyna and Triple H were no longer able to work together on WWE TV.

Triple H began a storyline with Stephanie McMahon, which definitely turned his head and then led to him breaking up with the ninth wonder of the world. Chyna lost her boyfriend and her job in such a short space of time that it left her in a bad place and it was something that she was unable to recover from for a number of years. Chyna also never forgave Triple H and Stephanie McMahon for what they did to her before her passing a few years ago.

Ashley Massaro And Paul London

Ashley Massaro won the 2005 Diva Search and became a star in the Women's Division after she posed for a magazine and was pushed into the Women's Championship picture at WrestleMania 23. Ashley was also known to have been in a relationship with Matt Hardy and then Paul London while she was working in WWE.

Ashley was moved over to the SmackDown roster to become the manager of Paul London and Brian Kendrick while she was dating Matt Hardy, and this then led to a rough Twitter exchange between the two men. Ashley and Paul's relationship didn't last for very long afterward and Ashley asked for her release from WWE back in 2008 so that she could look after her daughter. London was released from WWE not long afterward and despite this being almost a decade ago, neither Ashley nor London have been invited back to WWE in the years that have followed.

Matt Hardy And Lita

Matt Hardy and Lita were only young when they joined WWE and began a relationship after they were paired together as part of Team Xtreme. Their chemistry allowed them to become a popular team in WWE and it was then a well-known fact that they were also dating off-screen.

It wasn't until a few years later in 2005 that it was revealed that Lita had allowed her eyes to wander and had started a relationship with Edge, something that turned her into one of the biggest heels in WWE history, which she was never able to hide from. WWE turned the real-life situation into a storyline because they knew that fans were already aware of many of the details and it worked well for Edge and Lita who started to develop new characters. Matt has since moved on to marry former TNA star Reby Sky and the couple has two sons together.

Charlie Haas And Jackie Gayda

Jackie Gayda is one of the more forgettable women who has stepped into a WWE ring over the past few years, but as Miss Jackie, she was aligned with Charlie Haas and Rico as the couple began working together on WWE TV. It wasn't a tag team that set the world alight but it was the start of something special.

Her career in WWE didn't last for very long, but she does have the company to thank for starting her relationship with Charlie Haas who she married just a year after they were first paired together. The two have both stepped away from the wrestling business in recent years and have looked into other ventures, including opening their own nutritional store back in 2008. The couple has now been married for more than a decade and has four children together so it is one of the more successful stories to come out of a WWE pairing.

Melina And Batista

Melina met Johnny Nitro when the two were both contestants on Tough Enough, the following year they debuted together on WWE TV as MNM alongside Joey Mercury and Melina helped the team to become Tag Team Champions. The two were known to have been in a real-life relationship at this time, even though it hadn't been something that WWE had decided to use in the storyline.

It was only a few months later that Melina started a relationship with former World Champion Batista that almost led to the end of her relationship with Nitro. Of course, Melina and Nitro continued their relationship after this but it was the straw that broke the camel's back when it comes to Batista's second marriage. Melina and Batista worked together as part of an angle where she was helping Nitro and Mercury to retain their Championships and was supposed to be having a physical relationship with Batista, one that sparked a real-life connection.
