15 Weird Facts About The Real Life Barbie And Ken Dolls

For some people, becoming just like their idols is a real dream. There are people who have had surgery to look like pop stars or Hollywood A-listers. For some, it’s a way of life; for others, it can turn into a job as they become an impersonator.

But there are a handful of people in the world who don’t transform themselves into living celebrities, but rather into plastic ones. Known as real-life Barbie and Kens, these plastic surgery and modification addicts just want to look like the toys that they played with when they are growing up.

You might think that there would be just one Barbie and just one Ken out there, but there are actually a few on both sides. There’s Justin Jedlica, perhaps the most famous Ken who is very close to looking like the doll across his whole body. Another famous Ken is Rodrigo Alves, who has his own take on the style.

The Barbies of the world differ greatly – although blonde hair is a real must, just about everything else is up for debate. There’s Pixee Fox, who has gone under the knife on a number of occasions to create the perfect Barbie figure. There’s Valeria Lukyanova, who owes her Barbie status more to her make-up skills than anything else. There are others who have their own way of approaching the Barbie transformation, such as Alina Kovalevskaya and Amber Kohaku Chan.

We’re about to delve into this weird world of becoming a real-life Barbie and Ken doll, so get ready!

15 Two Of Them Are Best Friends

Justin Jedlica and Pixee Fox had been following each other on social media due to the fact that they are both attracting huge followings with their ambitions to become just like dolls. The two of them ended up meeting in person, and subsequently became best friends! If you saw the two of them walking down the street together, it would certainly give you pause for thought, as it’s obvious right away that they are a perfect match. Sadly, there won’t be any Barbie and Ken babies any time soon as the two aren’t dating. Justin’s not the type – he recently divorced from his husband of three years, so his interest in Pixee is strictly platonic! The two of them appeared on Dr. Oz’s show together to explain a bit more about the extreme modifications that they have had done to their bodies. It’s clear from those clips that they are on very good terms with one another.

14 Getting The Thinnest Waist In The World

So, what exactly has Pixee Fox had to do in order to get the smallest waist measurement in the world? It certainly hasn’t been easy. The first part of it is waist training with a corset. She admits that she wears a corset 24/7. The only time that she will take it off is to go to the gym, or when she is in recovery. She describes it as feeling safe, like giving yourself a hug all of the time. It’s probably for the best that she always wears this kind of structure, because it serves a very real purpose: replacing her ribs. In order to get down to this size, she actually had to have some of her ribs removed. It took a long time for her to find a surgeon who was willing to carry it out, and her lower organs are now without protection. If she should be in any danger, such as in a car crash, it would be very easy for her organs to be damaged.

13 The Amount Of Money They Spend

Valeria Lukyanova appears to be leading the stakes in the spending department. The Ukrainian claims to have spent over $800,000 on achieving her perfect doll look. She also says that she has only ever had one surgery – to increase her chest size closer to that of the ideal Barbie – so it’s not clear how she managed to rack up such a spending total. Still, she is outpacing Justin Jedlica and Pixee Fox easily. At the time of their double surgeries, it was estimated that between them they had spent $800,000. The bulk of that was on Justin’s side, as he has undergone far more operations than Pixee. Most of the Kens and Barbies spend a lot of money on operations, but the totals can really rack up when it comes to aftercare. Quentin Dehar, for example, has only spent about $100,000 on his Ken look – but has around $750 per month in upkeep and fillers if he wants to continue looking the part.

12 Rodrigo Nearly Lost His Face To An Infection

Rodrigo Alves spent a lot of time trying to be the perfect Ken doll, but has since sworn off getting his nose done any further. The reason? He actually contracted a flesh-eating bug called necrosis, only realizing that something was wrong when it started to eat a hole in his nose. He had repair work done to remove the infection and then patch his nose up, but now says that he’s going to steer clear of that area in the future. So far, he has had 43 operations – and the repair was his seventh nose job. He was on holiday in Spain when the hole started to appear, and he had to be rushed to hospital in Malaga to prevent it from getting any worse. If it had not been caught in time, he would have had to have his whole nose removed. He says he will continue seeking treatments which do not involve plastic surgery.

11 The Unreal Dream

Scientists have pointed out in the past that Barbie’s proportions are highly unrealistic. So unrealistic, in fact, that she wouldn’t be able to walk properly in real life. She has dimensions of 34-18-34, which just cannot be achieved in real life. Valeria Lukyanova has managed to come fairly close with minimal surgery, thanks to her tiny waist which comes genetically from her mother. Her measurements are reported as 39-18-33, which is nearly there (though it seems that her chest modifications probably went a bit too far). Pixee Fox, meanwhile, has previously recorded measurements of 38-16-39 – and has now brought her waist down to a world-record-breaking 14. It’s clear that she is more interested in taking things to a real extreme, rather than exactly emulating the Barbie doll. It seems that it’s difficult to get both sides of the balance close to 34, since this would result in a rather unbalanced figure.

10 Valeria Speaks To Aliens

Valeria Lukyanova has a few other quirks than just wanting to look like a Barbie doll. Actually, she has revealed a fair few beliefs in the past which are very odd indeed. She has said to the media that she would like to achieve the ideal of the ‘Breatharian’ diet, which involves living on just air and light. We’re not sure what kind of modifications would be needed to achieve that, but it’s not something which is possible for any human being right now. She also describes herself as actually being a spiritual leader called Amatue, who was an alien born on earth in a human form. “My communication with aliens is not verbal," she said. "We speak the language of light. I have learned a lot from them...and also that humans are the least sophisticated civilization." She is married, but has also said that she will never have children because it would be strange for an alien to have human children. Right… okay then!

9 The Demise Of A Barbie And Ken Relationship

One French couple made headlines because of the fact that they decided to become a real-life Barbie and Ken together. Sadly, it wasn’t to last. Quentin Dehar and Anastasia Reskoss got together because of their shared love for all things plastic, and decided to go under the knife together in an attempt to become the perfect couple. They were a real-life Barbie and Ken for a while… until Anastasia decided to do the unthinkable. She dyed her hair brown. "I separated from Anastasia because I fell out of love with her. I realized we were growing apart for a while, but the final straw was when she dyed her hair from blonde to a very dark brown. Ken does not like brunette girls!” says Quentin. “I wanted to spend the rest of our lives together morphing into the Ken and Barbie dolls we love, but Anastasia was no longer committed to that dream.”

8 This Barbie Is All Natural... Apparently

While it’s understandable that these people have managed to become their dream figure with the help of surgery, sometimes it seems even weirder when they haven’t had surgery at all. In the case of Valeria Lukyanova, for example, it is difficult to swallow the idea that she hasn’t had any facial work done given her complete transformation. But there is another Barbie doll who has claimed not to have any surgery either. Alina Kovalevskaya is from Odessa in the Ukraine, and claims to have avoided any work. "I look like a doll," Kovalevskaya has said. "Big eyes, little nose, small plump lips. I love long hair. My hair is a meter long." It’s clear that it could be possible for her to have those features genetically, and her makeup skills certainly help. People will probably always suspect that some surgery has been done, but in Alina’s case, she might actually be telling the truth.

7 Justin Compares Himself To Picasso

Justin Jedlica revealed in an interview with Dr Oz that he sees himself as being like a modern-day version of Picasso. He makes comparisons with things like the fact that people at the time thought that Picasso was a little crazy and untalented, whereas now his art is appreciated. He also says that he will continue working on his body as he grows older. He points out that Picasso didn’t just paint one painting and then declare himself finished. In the same way, Justin is not ever going to reach a point where he feels like the artwork of his body is finished. He wants to keep going and keep creating his art until he can no longer do it. At that point, he says, he will simply parlay those artistic talents into working on something else. He’s fairly realistic about the future, and seems down to earth – odd for someone who looks like they are out of this world!

6 One Real-Life Barbie Was Inspired By Illness

There is one real-life Barbie who is actually quite an inspirational figure. She calls herself Amber Kohaku Chan online, though her real name is Amber Guzman. "Because of my muscular dystrophy, I always need to be picked up or set down in a seat," she says. "One day, suddenly something just snapped in me and I decided to change my life. I realized that my muscular dystrophy was turning me into a real living doll. [Dressing up] helps me to not be so sad and upset." She is another real-life Barbie who hasn’t had any surgery at all, and instead uses make-up to make her eyes look larger and more cartoon-like. She also uses wigs to make the illusion complete. She’s certainly more of an anime-inspired doll, though she could easily pass for a child’s toy just like the other Barbies. The big difference here is that she’s doing it to cope with her illness, not just for vanity or attention.

5 One Ken Doll Has Had 340 Different Procedures

By 2016, Justin Jedlica was 35 years old. He had his first procedure – a nose job – at the age of 18. In the intervening years, he had managed to fit a lot in. He had had over 340 procedures at that point. They included multiple nose jobs, shoulder implants, back implants, cheek implants, bicep implants, liposuction, and so on. He’s had just about every procedure he possibly could in his quest to become living art. Interestingly, both he and Pixee Fox say that being a wannabe doll has had a huge impact on their love lives. They both say that they are giving up on the hope of finding true love because they have to spend so much time working on themselves instead. However, they are in love with the process so much that they have no plans to stop any time soon. They say instead that they have ‘plastic love’ to fill the void.

4 Justin Designs His Own Implants

Justin might have a point when he calls himself an artist, since he has been very creative in bringing his own visions to life. He has actually designed his own back implants in the past, and then had them adjusted a few times until he was happy with the results. It’s interesting that he is bringing an innovation to the field of plastic surgery. He has had modifications on a lot of areas which have never really been worked on before, such as his shoulders. He also designed some implants for Pixee Fox at her request. Out of all the real-life Barbie and Ken dolls, Justin seems to be the one who is most serious about his transformation – and sees it more as a career or profession than simply a hobby. Who knows, in another ten or twenty years we could all be thinking about getting back implants as the latest trend thanks to his work.

3 Valeria Is Apparently Not A Doll (But Yes, She Is)

Valeria Lukyanova has given some very conflicting statements in interviews about her status as a real-life Barbie doll. At one point she said, "Look, to me the Barbie doll looks perfect; it was created as a human idol. When I adopted her image, it felt very positive." It’s clear from her appearance that this doll-like image is very deliberate. Which is why it is very weird that she then gave this statement in another interview: "[Being known as the Human Barbie is] a little degrading and insulting, but I'm used to it now... it's the image most fans request, so I have to comply with it because it's become part of my aesthetic image, but I don't like it. I don't like it when people think I am imitating a doll." So… are you a doll or not, Valeria? We all know the answer to this one just by looking at her, so it’s very strange that she would go and pretend that she is not doing the thing we can all see her doing.

2 One Barbie And Ken Can’t Stand Each Other

You might think that Justin Jedlica and Valeria Lukyanova would end up being best of friends, considering that they have so much in common. After all, he gets on well with another human Barbie. But apparently there’s no love lost between them – they can’t stand the sight of one another. “It appears to me that much of her look is added makeup, fake hair and 'slimming' corsets,” Justin had said of her previously. “Drag queens have put on the same illusions with makeup and costumes for years.” After their awkward meeting, Valeria said, “He would do better not to comment on who is plastic and who is not. I think he is a handsome man - but he overdid his lips.” Ouch. Better not try putting these two in a room together again any time soon – some pretty expensive work could go ‘pop’ if they get into a fight with one another.

1 Their Surgeon Is Named Dr. Otto Placik

You couldn’t make this up. If you read a novel where there was a plastic surgeon character called Dr. Placik, you would just think that it was a clumsy joke on the part of the author. But no, Dr. Otto Placik is very much real and he is a bit of a pioneer when it comes to plastic surgery. He has to be, because he has worked on both Justin Jedlica and Pixee Fox, and their work doesn’t tend to be ordinary. He actually performed back to back surgeries on the pair of them at one point. It was a publicity stunt that they dreamt up together – both of them going under the knife and then going through the recovery period together, before they could unveil the results at the same time. A large amount of the surgery and the after period was broadcast live on Snapchat for all of their fans to see.
