When it comes to editing pictures, many editors turn to Photoshop to bring out the best in pictures, but if you're serious about your photography, you should definitely be more careful when using Photoshop.
We all make mistakes, but when we learn from them, that's what counts. If you're not sure about what to do, don't worry. You can accidentally insert a father's hand into a mother-daughter picture. If you have a full-body shot with weird hands, that's fine. Just add the sixth finger and someone will notice things quickly.
The over-emphasis on achieving the best results may lead to a challenging, stressful environment. However, it's important to produce a quality picture when you're in charge of a well-known magazine or newspaper. Many Photoshop mistakes are subtle and unnoticeable to the editors, but you should be more careful though, as a surplus of mistakes can cost you the job. The staff members won't like it either.
There's an obvious trend of Photoshop fails, but you don't want to be that person who gets called out for your ridiculous use of photo editing. It's one of the biggest subjects of Internet rage among trolls. If the magazine or newspaper is popular enough, one mistake can be noticed fairly quickly. Trolls are inevitable and everyone will encounter people who have nothing else better to do, but being careful is a good thing. When you get through this list of cringe-worthy edits from the past, you'll learn why you should have someone look at your picture after you make dramatic changes to it.
15 Invisible Handbag In Victoria's Secret Advertisement
Victoria's Secret is one of the biggest go-to brands among women. The chain retailer offers a wide variety of lingerie, loungewear and accessories. They also offer a complete lineup of beauty products ranging from scented body lotion to colored lip glosses.
However, there was just one thing missing in this particular advertisement — the handbag in the model's hand. It was invisible minus its straps and that's not a normal sighting on this Earth. It's clear an editor removed the handbag out of her hands, leaving her with nothing to carry in the pictorial. He or she should make sure that all of the clothing and accessories remains in the picture. Victoria's Secret is an iconic lingerie brand that needs all of the support they can get. They want to sell a lot of products for a profit. If potential customers cannot see a certain item, how can they purchase it?
14 Underwear Model Who Had An Extreme Thigh Gap
While women everywhere yearn for thigh gaps, I just want to remind you all that this underwear model had an extremely high thigh gap. You may not have noticed the accident at first, but the space between her thighs were elevated, giving the pair of underwear a weird appearance.
InteRose is a European underwear brand that specializes in briefs, boyshorts and panties, so there were time requirements involved in the process. This model got all dressed up to pose for a flattering photoshoot, only to be overshadowed by some digital nip and tuck that was likely unintentional. It's obvious there were things that slipped the editor's eyes. The damage has already been done, but I'm sure the editor will learn a life lesson after the photo was criticized by InteRose customers. Careful editing and reviewing can make a huge difference in the final outcome of professional pictures.
13 Jeb Bush Had A Dark Hand
Jeb Bush is the younger brother of former United States President George W. Bush. He served as the 43rd Governor of Florida from 1999 to 2007. He's the second son of former U.S. President George H.W. Bush and former First Lady Barbara Bush. He explored a business career before entering politics. He's been successful in everything he's done.
In 2015, a political campaign named Right to Rise USA Tweeted a picture of an inaugural mailing in support of the Jeb's bid for the Republican presidential nomination. The picture showed Jeb posing in front of a bridge in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. But if you look more closely, Jed was superimposed on a stock image of Cedar Rapids and his left hand allegedly belonged to someone else. The Federal Election Commission bars coordination between a Super PAC and a campaign, so Right to Rise couldn't just ask for a picture of Jeb in Iowa. It was a lose-lose situation, but at least we learned a valuable life lesson.
12 Model Whose Left Arm Bends Into Her Waist
This model is an example of perfection with her pale complexion, round eyes and sleek, brunette hair. She also has a slender frame that's desirable to many men. Look at the picture on the right. It's the same model, but there's a flaw as her left arm is bending into her waist. That's an unnatural look that could've been prevented.
You may have had to look a little bit more closely to notice the abnormal placement of her arm, but it's nonetheless a Photoshop fail that made its way to the Internet. This is why it's important for people to keep an eye out on all of the body parts during the photo editing process. Don't make it look like someone's arm bended into his or her waist when it never did. Remember the importance of body composition because an error can affect the person's appearance, weight and even self-esteem.
11 Guitarist With Six Fingers Instead Of Five
Every rock, punk and metal band has a guitarist. Sometimes, even two guitarists. Aside from the lead singer, a guitarist is a crucial part of a band. He or she provides guitar solos, instrumental fill passages, melody lines and the occasional rift. But what if a guitarist has six fingers instead of the usual five?
In this advertisement for guitar tabs, it's sort of easy to overlook that Polish guitarist Janusz Poplawski has six fingers strumming the guitar instead of five. In 1956, he debuted as a guitarist and singer for a band named the Blue Stars. He simultaneously served as a bassist for a jazz band. In 1970, he co-founded a band called the Old Stars. He recorded more than 200 songs during his career. He died on December 27, 2004, at the age of 66. It would be fascinating if he had six fingers, but he didn't suffer from polydactyly. So let's cut to the chase — an extra finger is a birth defect, not a surgery addition.
10 Retouch Gone Wrong
A retouching error may not be such a big deal, but it's still an error. Take a look at this retouched picture before and after Photoshop. Glenn Feron is an artist, photographer and retoucher based in New Rochelle, New York, but he still makes mistakes from time to time. The woman looked just fine in her black long-sleeved shirt and tousled hair while holding onto an acoustic guitar, but the digitally altered picture makes it look like she suffered a wardrobe malfunction.
She dressed like some kind of emo rocker chick. But this, the alleged wardrobe malfunction, wasn't what she intended. She still dressed like an emo rocker chick, but in a sexier way due to the silver necklace and more cleavage. It's a sexy look, but I doubt this was the type of look she was going for when she posed for the camera. That being said, Feron should've edited the picture while preserving its original theme.
9 Father's Hand In Mother-Daughter Photo
A mother told her daughter not to worry because her father will always be around the house. Just kidding, fathers can't always be there for their daughters unless if they're stay-at-home dads. Most fathers have jobs to work, errands to run and events to attend. There's absolutely no way the father's hand could've held onto the mother's shoulder without him being physically present in the mother-daughter image for a Photohouse USA advertisement.
Perhaps the editor had a mental plan to remove the father from the family-oriented image and forgot to get rid of his hand. Perhaps the editor accidentally inserted a man's hand into the image. Whatever the reason may be behind the apparent blunder, the image no longer displays a family-friendly appearance. It can startle young children who look at this image when they surf the web. It's important for you all to double-check before you publish an edited image.
8 Modeliste Magazine Significantly Toned Down Zendaya's Body
Zendaya is a stunning actress, singer and dancer. The 20-year-old stands at 5-foot-10 and weighs 130 lbs. She starred in the Disney Channel sitcom Shake It Up as Rocky Blue from 2010 to 2013. She also participated in season 16 of Dancing With The Stars, becoming the youngest contestant ever to participate in the televised dance competition.
Zendaya rocked a black leather jacket in this outdoor photoshoot in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, but Modeliste magazine apparently went too far and significantly toned down her torso and legs. The actress took to Instagram to share a side-by-side image of the retouched and un-retouched pictures on Instagram. She said that she loved the original picture and was shocked to see it manipulated. The Los Angeles-based magazine eventually removed the pictures and its editor-in-chief Amy McCabe, wrote a letter to thank Zendaya for raising an important issue. It's important for all women to have respect, honesty and self-love.
7 David Cameron Photoshopped A Poppy Onto His Suit
David Cameron is a British politician who served as the United Kingdom's Prime Minister from 2010 to 2016, Conservative Party Leader from 2005 to 2016. He was also a Member of the Parliament for Witney from 2001 to 2016. He identifies as a One-Nation Conservative, relating to both liberal economic policies and social liberal policies.
Cameron has a classic sense of style. He often wears timeless clothing items such as neutral suits, fitted sweaters and dress shirts. This time, however, he decided to kick his style up a notch by photoshopping a poppy onto his suit jacket. The poppy is a colorful flower that also serves as a symbol of remembrance of soldiers who have died during World War I. It adds color to his outfit, but it just doesn't blend in very well. Either he should've worn an actual poppy before getting his picture taken or the editorial team could've made the edit look a little more natural.
6 Levi's Created An Incorrect Reflection
Levi's is a world-famous brand produced by privately owned American clothing company Levi Strauss & Co. The Levi's brand has a quality selection of denim jeans, jackets, dresses, skirts and overalls along with comfortable t-shirts at decent prices that won't empty out your wallet. Its headquarters are located in the Levi's Plaza in San Francisco, California. You can never go wrong with a pair of Levi's jeans as people from all walks of life wear them.
Although Levi's is a well-liked brand, their advertisements can cause confusion among consumers. It's true that quality never goes out of style, but if you take a closer look, its reflection doesn't match the original advertisement. You can see what appears to be a bunch of spirals with a star-shaped light in the middle. The image featuring the advertisement looks pretty bad from afar. A reflection is supposed to reflect an image like a mirror, not display two separate images.
5 The Migration Of A Mole
A mole is a dark spot caused by a cluster of pigmented cells. Moles normally appear on people's faces regardless of gender. When it comes to moles, more than three million cases occur in the United States per year, according to the Mayo Clinic. In this cover for French theatre "Parle-moi d'Amour!", Caroline Silhol has a mole on her face, which is perfectly normal. Look at the edited picture on the bottom and you'll notice that her mole shifted to the other side of her face.
Silhol is a French actress, screenwriter and producer. She was born in Paris on August 10, 1949. In reality, the edited picture on the bottom is accurate as her mole is located on the left side of her face. The unedited picture on the top is inaccurate. The editor might've gotten the two pictures mixed up. Next time, viewing and editing the pictures side-by-side can make the editing process run more smoothly.
4 Woman's Gender In Question
First off, you spot an attractive woman wearing a dark brown dress and sporting a pair of oversized sunglasses as she's stopping to pose for a picture on the beach. Second, you notice there's something between her legs and you can't help but wonder if she was defecating or if she had a penis. You can speculate all you want, but the so-called object between her legs might just be a palm tree.
If it was in fact a palm tree, the editor should've removed it completely as opposed to having it linger around in the picture. This poor mistake ruined her outfit along with the overall setting of the picture. Halens is a European clothing company located in nine countries (Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Czech Republic, Poland, Latvia, Slovakia, Denmark, Norway). They sell all of the latest trends in women's clothing, shoes and accessories. The Internet swept Halens with a rash of criticisms over a Photoshop debacle. The only way to restore a reputation is to avoid common Photoshop mistakes.
3 Look Ma, No Head
This picture had a noticeably shorter man on the far right. Did the short man actually photobomb the photo or was it just the misuse of Photoshop that caused this catastrophe? It's very common for a person to unintentionally walk into a picture, but it's also typical for editors to commit errors using Photoshop. Mistakes can happen anywhere.
Regardless of how you look at it, the short man cannot have both of his hands on the man wearing the brown suit unless if he was standing in front of him. This entire picture just doesn't seem real. Despite how he's looking into the camera like the two other men, he remains the odd man out with his casual attire -- a gray t-shirt with a black and red striped long-sleeved shirt. It's fine if the editor wanted to add a third man into the picture for a Three-Stooges-like pair, but at least make it look more natural and amusing. Otherwise, it will scream "look ma, no head!"
2 Full Price For Half The Memory
A Lexar Professional Series 8 GB, 133x Class 6 SDHC memory card with Sharpcast at full price sounds like a good deal. Having additional memory in a camera, camcorders and smartphones is vital, but there's a major drawback in this advertisement. The background features a simple black and gold background. However, the memory card displays 8 GB while its reflection says 4 GB. Please check the internal storage before buying a memory card.
Reflections can be a beautiful thing in traditional photography. Reflections in digital photography, not so much. There are some issues that you can't really can't escape from using Photoshop. Making mistakes is arguably the biggest issue. Nobody wants to pay full price for a 4 GB memory card. That's a complete rip-off.
To correct the text issue, you'll remove the reflection and add a new one. That way, no one would criticize your product and you'll continue to attract consumers.
1 Woman Whose Butt Cheeks Were Far Apart
Don't get me wrong, this woman is quite pretty with long black hair, but her butt cheeks were clearly photoshopped and they ended up looking way too far apart from each other. The thought of these errors makes me cringe because the focus is supposed to be on the tank top, not her far-off butt cheeks. This trendy clothing item was intended to change the overall look of a section on a women's intimate clothing website called Zivame.
I'm sure that something similar has happened before. After all, the Internet contains a plethora of content ranging from Amazon listings to WordPress blog posts. One thing's for sure — an editor shouldn't assume it's acceptable to slack off on an assignment just because it's a general advertisement for the masses to view on the Internet. It's also important to insert a head onto a body as seamlessly as possible so it doesn't make the person look bizarre like a female character from a horror movie.
