It may be hard to believe since it's been chilly out for some time now, but the start of winter is still technically a few days away. Just in time for the even-colder temperatures to set in, we present you with these photos of snow queen cosplays sure to give you the chills — or warm you up. Either way, the beautiful and talented women on this list will make your spirits bright just in time for winter and the holidays. There is just something so pure and elegant and magical about the snow, and when it's turned into costumes, it's even better.
There are many variations of the snow queen, such as the Ice Queen, Elsa from Frozen, and even the White Witch from The Chronicles of Narnia. All are very different from one another, but they all have one thing in common — they are stunningly beautiful. And most stem from the original story of The Snow Queen by Danish folk author Hans Christian Andersen. One of Andersen's longest fairy tales, The Snow Queen, is the story of a little girl named Gerda, who has to save her best friend Kai from the evil Snow Queen. It is a story about good and evil.
But there is no issue of good versus evil here — these women and their snow queen cosplays are all purely good. So now, without further ado, here are 14 stunning snow queen cosplays that will bring a little joy to your holiday season.
15 Russian Snowmaiden
This snow queen is from Russia, and her name is Zely. If you think about it, Russia is actually the perfect place for any kind of snow queen. It's near the North Pole, and for most of the year, it's covered in a blanket of snow, like we see here. The pristine forests and snow-covered cities of winter Russia is just as beautiful as the cosplayer herself. Russia is also home to Siberia in the East, which is one of the coldest places on Earth. This Snegurochka, or Russian snow maiden, is from Russian fairytales beginning in the 9th century. According to the legend, she is the daughter of Father Frost and the Snow Queen, and she is rooted in Slavic pagan beliefs. An opposing tale says Snegurochka was made from snow by an old man and woman who were sad they never had children of their own.
13 Frozen Queen
12 German Ice Queen
This is an ice queen cosplay that can be found on DeviantArt. The DeviantArtist is la-Esmeralda, and she has several ice queen cosplays, which are each numbered on her page. She is a model from the North of Germany, and says on her profile, "I love especially the alternative style like gothic, fantasy, pin-up, fantasy and fairytales, as well as things like beauty, fashion & cosplay. All the hair and make-up in this portfolio was done by myself. I do many of my costumes and I also work as a photographer. So many of the photos here are 100 per cent made by me." Pictured above are two of her many ice queen cosplays. Clearly very talented, the ice queens that Esmeralda portrays are simply gorgeous, and it's pretty cool to know that she does everything from the hair and makeup to the photography, all herself.
11 Lady Frozen
Another DeviantArtist/cosplayer is this beautiful, Snow White-esque young woman portraying a winter queen she calls Lady Frozen. This is different from many of the photos on this list, simply because her hair is so dark. When it comes to snow queens, many cosplayers like to make their hair white or bleach blonde. But for Anya Samhain, the dark hair totally works, even being Lady Frozen. Anya, who goes by Annettfrozen on DeviantArt, is a 30-year-old model and cosplayer from the Eastern European country of Georgia. Her other interests include art, reading, and web design, and she is a fan of Harry Potter, Sherlock Holmes, and the writer Jane Austen.
10 White Goddess
There is something so pure and pretty about this snow queen. Everything about her cosplay works well together to make her appear soft and feminine, but also strong. This cosplay is called the White Goddess and she is also a DeviantArtist. She remains anonymous, not giving her name on her profile, but one thing we do know about her is that she is Russian. She currently resides in Moscow, Russia, and has been on DeviantArt for nine years. Besides cosplay, she has an array of other artistic interests, such as painting, drawing, photography, digital art, and music. It was written about her White Goddess that, "White Goddess by utu-lab is as delicate and beautiful as a snowflake. The frosted tones and ethereal lighting create a chilled atmosphere and the model's blue eyes are piercing. The model, stylist, and makeup artist have created a wonderfully cohesive look that the photographer has captured masterfully."
9 Bejeweled Skin
Not much is known about this drop-dead gorgeous snow queen, although her photos have been shared numerous times on Pinterest for how beautiful and detailed the makeup is. She truly embodies what most of us think a snow queen would be like, whether she dressed up this way as a cosplay or even just for Halloween. She went above and beyond to create the ultimate snow queen look with sparkly jewels, icy-blue makeup, and a silvery skin tone. The crystal nose ring is also a nice touch, as are the sparkles on her eyebrows that look like ice crystals. It all adds to the image of snow and ice and gives us the chills just looking at. The glittering silver snowflake crown is the icing on top (pun intended). Well done, mystery snow queen.
8 Rustic Snow Queen
This is a little bit of a different take on a snow queen than we are accustomed to. Usually, they are all about the sparkles and glam, but this is a different kind of snow queen, although she is every bit as beautiful. More rustic and simple than many of the other snow queen cosplays out there, this one is just as pretty in its own right. The headpiece, especially, is stunning and reminds us of a reindeer in the snow. Much of her snow-white skin is shown because of the barely-there white outfit that would definitely not keep anyone warm in the snow, but it works. She is probably not what Hans Christian Andersen had in mind when he wrote The Snow Queen, but we love it just the same!
7 That Crown!
6 Elsa Lookalike
This cosplayer and Instagram model has become famous for being Elsa's lookalike. In case you've been living under a rock for the past decade, Elsa is the Snow Queen from Disney's Frozen. And Anna Faith Carlson of Daytona Beach, Florida, is just 22 years old, but she has seen much success in the world of cosplay. She has been hailed as the Queen of Disney Cosplays, meaning she can transform herself into any Disney princess. But by far, she has become most well known for cosplaying Elsa, simply because she looks so much like her! Anna Faith has also cosplayed numerous other characters from Harry Potter, Star Wars, Batman, Spider-Man, and so on.
5 Icicle Crown Steals The Show
This is a cosplayer who used her look to be both an ice queen and a mermaid. The white and silver wig and lashes allowed her to portray two different characters with ease, as it is detailed on her blog. As she said of the hair and eyelashes, neither seemed complete without the other, but I think it can be argued that the real star of the costume is neither of those things. It's really all about that ice crown. It's supposed to look like it's made from icicles, and it totally does. We especially love the iced-over, frozen (but sparkly, of course) eyebrows. This touch really adds to the whole look — a small but important detail. On her blog, she explains how to DIY this cosplay for Halloween or any cosplay event. She wrote, "We added silver on the lips and a little silver highlights on the shoulders and collar bone to tie it all together. Can’t you just picture some snowflakes forming in her magical hands?!"
4 Swedish Ice Princess
This snow queen cosplay may not be as over the top glamorous or professional or beautiful as some of the ones we've seen in this article, but it is a hell of a lot closer to what you or I could ever hope to achieve. And in its own right, it is very pretty. The backdrop of a very real wintry forest helps give this snow queen the right vibe. She wears the blue gown like Elsa from Frozen does, and has the long blonde braid, as well. This is 22-year-old Swedish cosplayer Miranda Hedman, and she goes by the name Mirish on DeviantArt, which she has been a part of for a whole decade. Her latest cosplays include Harley Quinn, a forest fairy, and Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones. This was her ice queen cosplay from 2014. If anyone understands cold, it's this Swedish beauty.
3 Winter Ballerina
This cosplay represents winter, as the cosplayer was trying to portray all four seasons with her costumes. She looks like a snow queen ballerina of sorts. She is 27-year-old Nikita from Paris, France. Her real name is Laura Salviani, and she had this to say on her bio: "Hi everyone! I'm a cosplayer since 2006, and I was the lucky representative of France for the World Cosplay Summit 2008 and 2010." She has cosplayed numerous characters, including Anna of Arendelle, Poison Ivy, High Elf Shadow, Elizabeth Middleford, Aphrodite, Snow White, Wonder Woman, Belle, and plenty of Japanese anime characters. She is one very talented cosplayer, and all her costumes look amazing. This winter queen is one of our faves, though.
2 Dark Beauty
This gorgeous creature is Catharina Hellberg, and she has been transformed into a snow queen. This photo was found in 2016 in Dark Beauty Magazine, which promotes art, fashion, photography, and so much more. Catharina's photographer, who goes by Ana Stasia, was thinking of a whole winter world when she created this image and said, "When winter comes to a woman's soul, she withdraws into her inner self, her deepest spaces. She refuses all connection, refutes all arguments that she should engage in the world. She may say she is resting, but she is more than resting: She is creating a new universe within herself." The costume and backdrop are certainly stunning.
1 Snow Queen
According to a comment on DeviantArt, this ice queen cosplay is "elegant and mystically mesmerizing." Fans raved about it. It is a cosplay by MariannaInsomnia, whose real name is Marianna Orlova, and she is from Russia. The 25-year-old revealed that most of her costumes are made by her "mum." Marianna's mum also made costumes for Alice in Wonderland characters, Poison Ivy, a snow maiden, Harley Quinn, and so many more. She has been a part of DeviantArt for seven years. She is really into photography as well, and of course, costume design. She is currently based in Moscow, Russia, working primarily on her photography.
