They said what?! Believe it or not, some of the most shocking, outrageous, and pretty much unbelievable claims that have been made were proudly uttered by celebrities. Sure, you’d be inclined to believe that since these famous faces are always in the spotlight, they’d be more careful with what they say, but alas…
Enter this list of 15 of the most outrageous claims made by celebs, and we guarantee you’ll read it twice. From socialite-turned-DJ Paris Hilton to fallen actor Mel Gibson to pop princess Britney Spears and late star Michael Jackson, they’re responsible for some of the most outrageous statements to ever make it into the public domain.
They say celebrities enjoy a little embellishment from time to time and we, as members of the public, tend to accept it, within reason, of course. We’re just not sure these shocking claims can slip through the radar and remain unnoticed, so we decided to shed some light on some of our favorite celeb claims from a few famous faces in Hollywood.
Sure, we’ve all uttered something stupid at some point in our lives or dared to make a bold claim. Only our family and friends are bound to hear it, though. Being famous and having an impressive following, on the other hand, guarantees that, sooner or later, the whole world will know about it. Finally, being famous has a downside… who knew?!
Check out some of the following gems that now serve as internet gold uttered by some of your favorite musos and actors.
15. Actor Sean Connery
For former James Bond star Sean Connery, his comments about hitting a woman landed him in some serious hot water after an exclusive interview with Playboy. He claimed, “Don’t think there is anything particularly wrong about hitting a woman — although I don’t recommend doing it in the same way that you’d hit a man. An open handed slap is justified — if all other alternatives fail and there has been plenty of warning. If a woman is a b—h, or hysterical, or bloody-minded continually, then I’d do it. I think a man has to be slightly advanced, ahead of the woman.”
He’s been known to be fairly sexist, so perhaps his words were twisted around? Unfortunately not, as over the years, the acclaimed actor has stood by his previous claims, even telling them to Barbara Walters during a one on one.
14. Actress Gwyneth Paltrow
It could be said the woman just knows what she likes to eat, but it’s pretty extreme even for most fitness fanatics. We’re guessing it had more to do with promoting her cookbook than her loathing of canned cheese. The actress and mother of two has always been notorious for her strict eating habits, and her detox diet included other forbidden food items from gluten and dairy to alcohol, caffeine, and shellfish.
13. Actress Amanda Bynes
Is it really a surprise to see former child star Amanda Bynes make the list for outrageous celebrity claims? The controversial actress has had a few scandals to her name and sparked outrage after a surprising turn of events involving social media and Rihanna.
In a bizarre racial rant, Amanda took to her Twitter account to send out a few shocking tweets, including the outrageous claim that “Chris Brown beat Rihanna because she wasn’t pretty enough.”
Amanda didn’t stop there and went on to say the Barbadian singer and songwriter looks “so ugly trying to be white.” This is not the first time the disgraced tv star has shocked her followers, and something tells us it won’t be the last.
12. Pop Icon Michael Jackson
One of the most bizarre and shocking claims to date is this outrageous statement by the King of Pop himself: “The most loving thing to do is to share your bed with someone.” Perhaps, this could be seen as something romantic if it was said by any other celeb, but when there’s a stigma of underlying child abuse, this shocking claim is anything but romantic.
The deceased star has had a string of accusations against him even long after his passing, and the question remains — was Michael Jackson just a dirty child molester? A new lawsuit suggests yes, and this time it’s from a woman who claims that she was sexually molested as a young girl in the ’80s and ’90s. It’s chilling to think the King of Pop may actually have been a pedophile who got away with it as he used his celebrity power to silence his victims. Long after his death, accusations of various cases of child molestation continue to dog the late and great Michael Jackson’s legacy.
11. Model Naomi Campbell
“I look at modeling as something I’m doing for black people in general,” said supermodel Naomi Campbell in an outrageous claim.
Ironically, the British model was later quoted as saying she refuses to describe discrimination she’s faced in the fashion industry as “racism.” “I understood what it meant to be black. You had to put in the extra effort. You had to be twice as good,” said the iconic supermodel.
Whilst her outrageous remarks and bad temper often land the petite star in hot water, her career on the runway has been flawless. She was first scouted at the tender age of 15. She went on to become the very first black model to grace the covers of French Vogue and TIME magazine and is now one of the most iconic faces the fashion industry has ever seen.
10. Singer Britney Spears
Next to make it onto the Top 15 list is the Princess of Pop herself, Britney Spears. According to the pop star, Japan has relocated itself to Africa as she made this shocking claim during a live interview:
“I’ve never really wanted to go to Japan. Simply because I don’t like fish. And I know that’s very popular out there in Africa.”
We have to admit it was really difficult to choose just one outrageous claim, seeing that with a simple Google search, you’ll find an extensive catalog of one-liners and quotes made famous by the pint-sized star. We can only hope that she was just playing dumb to be cute and wasn’t, in fact, being serious.
9. Christian Dior’s ex-fashion designer John Galliano
What would your boss do if you were to proudly proclaim you love Hitler? Well, for fashion designer John Galliano, it led to his immediate firing.
Top French fashion house Christian Dior fired the flamboyant designer after a video showing him claiming to “love Hitler” and hurling anti-Semitic abuse at people in a Paris bar went viral. Sure, Galliano was the creative director and had been with the fashion house for over 15 years, but his drunken rant sent shockwaves across the world.
The video was shot on a mobile phone and shows the designer blind drunk in a quaint local bar in central Paris during Paris Fashion Week. A woman’s voice asks the famous designer, “Are you blond, with blue eyes?” and slurring his words, he replies, “No, but I love Hitler, and people like you would be dead today. Your mothers, your forefathers would be all be gassed and dead.”
8. Actor Mel Gibson
For actor Mel Gibson, his shocking claims landed him in hot water not only with his ex-wife but also with his fans, the police force, and just about every minority group there is.
It all started back in 1990 when the fallen star hurled homophobic slurs at the gay and lesbian community. He was quoted in an interview with Spanish newspaper El Pais saying, “They take it up the a– . This is only for taking a s–t … With this look, who’s going to think I’m gay?”
If that weren’t bad enough, the brazen star proceeded to go on a xenophobic tirade aimed at the Jewish community, claiming Jews are responsible for the lack of world peace. During a DUI arrest in 2006, Mel said, “F–king Jews … the Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world,” and called a female arresting officer “sugar tits.”
7. Socialite-Turned-DJ Paris Hilton
Just when we’ve all just about forgotten about socialite-turned-DJ Paris Hilton, we came across this oldie but goodie. The young heiress has never been one to mince her words, and on this particular night in 2012, her shocking statements were anything but tame.
Paris was on her way home in a cab with her friend after a night out on the town, and her conversation was secretly recorded and later shared for obvious reasons. The audio recording reveals Paris saying, “Gay guys are the horniest people in the world … They’re disgusting. Dude, most of them probably have AIDS … I would be so scared if I was a gay guy. You’ll like, die of AIDS.”
The same day the audio file went viral, the reality TV star issued a statement through GLAAD saying she is a “huge supporter of the gay community” and called gay people “the strongest and most inspiring people” she knew.
6. X Factor Judge Sharon Osbourne
Wife to rocker Ozzy and X Factor judge Sharon Osbourne has never been one to mince her words. She’s been accused of having a potty mouth, and with her recent outrageous claim, you’ll be inclined to agree.
The 60-year-old revealed she’d perform oral sex on Prince Charles – but only in return for a Royal title. “I want a title. They call it a Dame. You just have to suck his d***,” said Sharon live on Conan O’Brien’s US chat show.
If that weren’t enough, she went on to say that her husband, Ozzy, could earn his knighthood by sleeping with the Prince of Wales’s wife, Camilla, the Princess of Cornwall. “He can f*** Camilla while I’m with Charles,” she said.
5. Actor Ashton Kutcher
So, you spent years getting to know Ashton Kutcher‘s hippie character Michael Kelso on That ’70s Show and avidly watched his production of MTV’s hit reality television show Punk’d. But how much do you really know about Ashton himself?
For example, do you know that he was the first Twitter user to get to 1,000,000 followers, beating CNN in the Million Followers Contest back in 2009? Or that he’s an actor turned investor these days?
Ashton has many hidden talents, and in the most surprising revelation of all, the actor made a claim stating, “The number of lines in your forehead tells how many lives you’ve lived.” The internet is full of famous outrageous quotes, and now, thanks to Ashton, he made sure we have one more…
4. Actor Arnold Schwarzenegger
“I think gay marriage should be between a man and a woman.” By any means, these words are both shocking and confusing. Many people may not know that this shocking claim was made by none other than former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
He made this puzzling remark back in 2003 during an exclusive radio interview with talk show host Sean Hannity on The Sean Hannity Show. Needless to say, the actor turned governor’s controversial views were not well received, and it soon went viral. It’s quite possibly one of the worst logical fails of our time.
3. Actor Brad Pitt
In one of the most outrageous celeb claims of all, actor Brad Pitt has said nothing ever happened between him and Angelina Jolie during the filming of Mr. & Mrs. Smith. He really believes we would believe nothing was going on, but we know better.
In shocking new revelations, the actress’s former bodyguard, Mark Behar, reportedly revealed to Us Weekly that the two loved up co-stars would often ‘make out’ in their trailers and pass sexual love notes to one another during the making of the thriller.
Angelina, on the other hand, was more than happy to detail the couple’s forbidden romance and went on to reveal, “Whether it was shooting a scene or arguing about a scene or gun practice or dance class or doing stunts — anything we had to do with each other, we just found a lot of joy in it together and a lot of real teamwork. We just became kind of a pair.”
2. Actress Shailene Woodley
Ever heard of The Clay Cleanse? Fellow actresses and co-stars Shailene Woodley and Zoe Kravitz swear by it, and Shailene once made the startling claim that clay is one of the best things you can put in your body. That’s right — actual clay, the kind of clay made from volcanic ash.
The Big Little Lies star believes that drinking cups of clay is a great way to curb hunger pains and detox the body. “I ended up drinking clay because it cleans out your body and fills you up,” she said to US Weekly. We’re not too convinced on its effectiveness and would prefer to try out other tried and tested plans involving more things of the actual food variety.
1. Actress Brooke Shields
After a tiny social media stalk and a quick Google search on actress Brooke Shields, we’ve discovered a list of endless one-liners and quotes that rival those of even the most outrageous celebrities. For example, we discovered this internet gem: “The thing I’m the most proud of in my personal life is that my daughter actually thinks that I’m fabulous.”
We also discovered that smoking may or may not make you cool but not smoking sure doesn’t make you clever if this quote by Brooke is anything to go by. The actress boldly proclaimed: “Smoking kills. If you’re killed, you’ve lost a very important part of your life.”
