Being a pilot may sound like an exciting career, but as these guys will tell you, it's not all fun and games. During the course of their time in the sky, they have seen some seriously chilling things. These range from portals, giant holes in the Earth, and even UFOs. Confessions like these carry extra weight, as it's not just some crackpot who claims to have been abducted and experimented on with no actual proof. These are trained, professional, and trustworthy people who have all seen this. Despite the fear of being ridiculed and possibly losing their jobs, they came forward and told the world what they saw. Now it's up to you whether to believe them or not.
Many people will call these confessions conspiracy theories, but at what point does a theory become a probability? How many pilots have to come forward with these kinds of confessions before we take them seriously? Because these 15 are just a taste. There are plenty more confessions just like these all over the Internet, and it would take days to read them all. I guess the only thing left to do is read them over yourself, and make up your own damn mind. But don't blame me if you get chills down your spine...
15 "Pilots Aren't Allowed To Fly Over The Poles"
The strangest ever confessions made by pilots are the ones that suggest that it's forbidden to fly over the poles. There has been a lot of speculation about why this is. While the actual reasons are vague and unanswered, the fact that pilots are told not to fly directly over the north and south poles seems to be real. Back in the day, it was because of older navigation systems - once the planes flew over the poles the airplane's compass would "flip" from north to south, interfering with the plane's guidance system. But that problem is no longer a valid excuse - given the fact that planes are now guided by GPS. According to official statements, none of the approved civil polar routes are allowed to come within 60 nautical miles of the pole.
Is there something there that the authorities don't want civilians to see? Many people think so. This YouTube video is an account of a man who claims to have been told by a military pilot that the North pole is just "A giant, great big freaking hole."
14 Flight 19 - The Lost Patrol
Perhaps the most infamous aerial disaster involving the Bermuda Triangle was the infamous flight 19. For those who aren't familiar with the Bermuda Triangle, it's where a disproportionately large number of accidents happen, involving planes and boats. This is why it has the nickname "The Devil's Playground," or "The Devil's Triangle." There's all sorts of conspiracy theories about it. But what's factual is the fact that a squadron of 5 US Navy Torpedo Bombers were lost inside the area during a navigation flight in 1945. They were only recently fished out of the ocean. Their last known transmission was: "We are entering white water, nothing seems right. We don't know where we are, the water is green, no white." This is a chilling confession from the lead pilot.
13 Bruce Gernon Jr. - The Time Traveling Pilot
Bruce Gernon Jr. is another pilot that experienced something extremely strange, and his confession has been giving people the chills for years. Bruce Gernon claims to have entered a wormhole in the Bermuda Triangle, which allowed him to travel a 1.5 hour journey in a much shorter time than usual. The fact that his flight was indeed much shorter than usual seems to corroborate his story. He attributes this phenomenon to an "electric fog theory."
He recounts his experience in a recent column: "I was flying near Bimini when electronic fog attached itself to my aircraft. I radioed Miami radio at 3:30 PM that I wasn’t sure of my position—something was wrong. My compass was spinning and my three electronic navigational instruments were malfunctioning. I had entered a horizontal tunnel that was 10,000 feet high, about ten miles long, and 100 miles east of Miami. I was in the tunnel for about 20 seconds then the electronic fog attached itself to the airplane when I exited the tunnel. Somehow I traveled 100 miles in only three minutes and 20 seconds."
12 Kenneth Arnold - He Made UFOs Famous
Kenneth Arnold was an aviator and successful businessman who saw UFOs in 1947 near Mount Rainier in Washington State. His sighting helped popularize and legitimize UFO phenomena, because he was a respected member of society and seen as a "model witness." As he recalled: "The first thing I noticed was a series of flashes in my eyes as if a mirror was reflecting sunlight at me... I saw the flashes were coming from a series of objects that were traveling incredibly fast. They were silvery and shiny and seemed to be shaped like a pie plate . . . What startled me most at this point was . . . that I could not find any tails on them."
"I counted nine of them as they disappeared behind the peak of Mount Rainier. Their speed was apparently so great I decided to clock them. I took out my watch and checked off one minutes and 42 seconds from the time they passed Mount Rainier until they reached the peak of Mount Adams . . . All told the objects remained in view slightly less than two minutes from the time I first noticed them."
11 World War 2 "Foo Fighters"
Fans of the Foo Fighters will no doubt have heard of these strange accounts. The phrase "Foo Fighter" was the term given to UFOs seen by World War Two fighters on the allied side. There was actually a huge amount of these sightings during the war, and some of them are stunning. One pilot reported "...Strange globe glowing with greenish light, about half the size of the full moon as it appears to us." Another confessed to seeing "...two fog lights flying at high rates of speed that could change direction rapidly." There were many other accounts. Some thought they were advanced German planes, but others have no explanation for these strange sightings.
10 Major Gordon Cooper - NASA's Alien Believer
Major Cooper was a NASA astronaut that talked at length about his belief in not only UFOs, but extra-terrestrial life. And he claims to have seen them with his own eyes:
"For many years I have lived with a secret, in a secrecy imposed on all specialists in astronautics. I can now reveal that every day, in the USA, our radar instruments capture objects of form and composition unknown to us. And there are thousands of witness reports and a quantity of documents to prove this, but nobody wants to make them public. Why? Because authority is afraid that people may think of God knows what kind of horrible invaders. So the password still is: We have to avoid panic by all means."
"I was furthermore a witness to an extraordinary phenomenon, here on this planet Earth. It happened a few months ago in Florida. There I saw with my own eyes a defined area of ground being consumed by flames, with four indentions left by a flying object which had descended in the middle of a field. Beings had left the craft (there were other traces to prove this). They seemed to have studied topography, they had collected soil samples and, eventually, they returned to where they had come from, disappearing at enormous speed... I happen to know that authority did just about everything to keep this incident from the press and TV, in fear of a panicky reaction from the public."
9 The Gorman Dogfight
The so-called "Gorman Dogfight" occurred in 1948. George Gorman was flying a P-51 Mustang with the National Guard when he saw a strange object. He even tried to engage it and destroy it. Recalling this incident, Gorman stated: "I am convinced that there was definite thought behind its maneuvers. I am further convinced that the object was governed by the laws of inertia because its acceleration was rapid but not immediate and although it was able to turn fairly tight at considerable speed, it still followed a natural curve. When I attempted to turn with the object I blacked out temporarily due to excessive speed. I am in fairly good physical condition and I do not believe that there are many if any pilots who could withstand the turn and speed effected by the object, and remain conscious. The object was not only able to out turn and out speed my aircraft...but was able to attain a far steeper climb and was able to maintain a constant rate of climb far in excess of my aircraft."
8 The Chiles-Whitted UFO Encounter
By far one of the most bizarre and infamous UFO sightings in aviation history was the Chiles-Whitted sighting of 1948. The two commercial pilots were flying a plane above Montgomery, Alabama, when they saw a bright object streak in front of their plane, narrowly missing them. The two pilots released statements concerning the UFO, and they said it passed in front of them for about 10 seconds. One pilot said: "It was clear there were no wings present, it was powered by some jet or other type of power shooting flame from the rear some 50 feet. There were two rows of windows, which indicated a lower and upper deck, from inside these windows a very bright light was glowing. Underneath the plane there was a blue glow of light."
7 The Fukuoka Incident
In 1948, a f-61 Black Widow aircraft was patrolling over Japan. The pilot then saw a strange UFO. The subsequent report, which relied heavily on the pilot's input, stated that:
"When the F-61 approached within 12,000 feet, the target executed a 180-degree turn and dived under the F-61. The F-61 attempted to dive with the target but was unable to keep pace. It is believed that the object was not lost from the scope due to normal skip null-zones common to all radar equipment. The pilot and observer feel that it was the high rate of speed of the object which enabled it to disappear so rapidly."
6 The Mantell UFO Incident
The Mantell UFO incident was important because it involved a pilot's death. This changed people's perspective about UFOs, and people started to take them more seriously. This incident happened in 1948, above the area around Fort Knox. 25-year-old Captain Thomas F. Mantell was called into action after an unusual object was spotted in the air. These are his last known transmissions:
"Object traveling at 180 MPH - half my speed. High and traveling about ½ my speed at 12 o'clock position. Closing in to take a good look. Object traveling at 180 MPH Directly ahead and above me now and moving at about ½ my speed. I'm trying to close in for a better look. Object directly ahead of and above me now and moving about ½ my speed. It appears to be metallic of tremendous size. I'm trying to close in for better look. Object going up and forward as fast as [I am]. Going to 20,000 feet and if no closer will abandon chase."
5 Milton Torres
In 1957, Milton Torres was flying his F-86D Sabre over England. He had been scrambled specifically to deal with a UFO flying over East Anglia. His confession is stunning. This suggests that his high command knew about the threat of a UFO enough to order a full-on attack against the object, at one point ordering Milton Torres to fire a full salvo of rockets at it. Milton Torres realizes now that this would have been incredibly stupid, given the fact that an object capable of such high speeds would undoubtedly have equally formidable offensive capabilities. "I would have been vaporized," he admitted.
4 Nash-Fortenberry UFO Sighting
The Nash-Fortenberry UFO sighting is one of the most famous and publicized of all time. It involved two commercial pilots, William B. Nash and William H. Fortenberry, who saw a formation of 8 UFOs flying over Virginia in 1952. Their accounts are stunning:
"Suddenly a red brilliance appeared in the air beyond and somewhat eastward — that is, to our side — of Newport News. We saw it together at practically the same moment. The remark of one of us was, 'What the hell is that?' It hadn't grown gradually into view — it seemed simply to have appeared, all of a sudden, in place."
"Almost immediately we perceived that it consisted of six bright objects streaking toward us at tremendous speed, and obviously well below us. They had the fiery aspect of hot coals, but of much greater glow — perhaps twenty times more brilliant than any of the scattered ground lights over which they passed or the city lights to the right. Their shape was clearly outlined and evidently circular; the edges were well defined, not phosphorescent or fuzzy in the least. The red-orange color was uniform over the upper surface of each craft."
3 Andrew Danziger
Andrew Danziger is another pilot who has seen UFOs. But what makes his sighting extraordinary is the fact that he was trustworthy enough to be Obama's pilot. If the president is trusting his life with this pilot, shouldn't we trust his word? The incident took place in 1989 over Kansas City. As he recalls: "We took off from Kansas city... Something really strange out this way. There was just what looked like a moon dimly visible behind some of those thin wispy clouds." He later described it as a white disc. So this is clearly a very respected and trusted name in the world of aviation, who is confessing to seeing UFOs.
2 The 2007 Alderney UFO Sighting
A more recent UFO encounter was back in 2007, when a commercial pilot named Ray Bowyer saw a strange series of objects over Alderney. He recalled:
"This encounter lasted for fifteen minutes, and the first object being visible from 55 miles distance. On nearing the object a second identical shape appeared beyond the first. Both objects were of a flattened disk shape with a dark area to [their] right. They were brilliant yellow, with light emanating from within, and I estimated them to be up to possibly a mile across. I found myself astounded but curious, but at 12 miles distance these objects were becoming uncomfortably large, and I was glad to descend and land the aircraft. Many of my passengers saw the objects as did the pilots of another aircraft, 25 miles further south. There is also possible radar information still being investigated."
1 Donald Slayton - Another NASA Alien Believer
Yet another NASA astronaut who claims to have seen UFOs with his own eyes is Donald Slayton, former Mercury Astronaut. His account is as follows:
"I was testing a P-51 fighter in Minneapolis when I spotted this object. I was at about 10,000 feet on a nice, bright, sunny afternoon. I thought the object was a kite, then I realized that no kite is gonna fly that high. As I got closer it looked like a weather balloon, grey and about three feet in diameter. But as soon as I got behind the darn thing it didn't look like a balloon anymore. It looked like a saucer, a disk. About the same time, I realized that it was suddenly going away from me - and there I was, running at about 300 miles per hour. I tracked it for a little way, and then all of a sudden the damn thing just took off. It pulled about a 45 degree climbing turn and accelerated and just flat disappeared.
