The last time Travis Scott performed at a music festival, multiple people died. But that hasn’t stopped the rapper from booking his first festival since the Astroworld tragedy in November 2021.
According to TMZ, Travis is booked to headline Day N Vegas Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada during the Sunday, September 4. The festival just released its full line-up. Sza and J. Cole will be headlining on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
Other big names booked to play the festival include Playboi Carti, Trippie Redd, 21 Savage, Jhené Aiko, Pusha T, and Baby Keem.
The festival’s decision to book Travis may come as a surprise to many. The rapper is still engaged in multiple lawsuits stemming from Astroworld. He’s even being sued by a fan who claims she suffered a miscarriage due to the injuries she faced at the festival.
Previously, it was reported that the lawsuits against the Travis as well as the rest of the festival’s organizers total over $10 billion combined.
Travis founded Astroworld, an annual music festival which he headlines, in his hometown of Houston, Texas in 2018. But things got out of hand during last year’s edition when the crowd began to surge.
In total, 10 people were killed at the event, including multiple minors. Hundreds of people were treated for injuries.
Travis faced intense backlash following the fatal festival. He was criticized for continuing to perform as the crowd got out of hand, and for later attending an after party. He was also accused of encouraging rowdiness before the event.
In addition, the festival organizers have been accused of failing to take proper safety protocols in order to prevent a tragedy of this nature.
Despite the disaster, Travis’s career has seemed to quickly bounce back. The rapper returned to the stage earlier this year to perform at a number of private events, including a Coachella afterparty.
In May, Travis gave his first public performance since Astroworld to a sold-out audience when he performed a set at Miami’s E11EVEN Club, as part of the Formula 1 Race Week celebrations.
In other proof his popularity hasn’t decline, the rapper’s collaboration with Nike was so popular, a raffle was held to choose buyers for his limited Travis Scott Air Trainer 1s. Only two pairs were released during the May drop.
The rest of the collection – including pants, jackets, and t-shirts – sold out within minutes. But only time will tell if Travis’ upcoming festival performance is met with the same enthusiasm.
