According to Guardian, the biggest hit single of Del Rey has a painful past. The EDM, which looks like a found home footage video, is inspired by a friend’s suicide. One of her dearest friends committed suicide in the summer, as depicted in the music video by Kyle Newman. The song was part of the debut Born to Die album, released in 2012. It became a massive sleeper hit in 2013 when French house producer Cedric Gervais turned the sad song into a dance floor anthem. The song peaked at number four on the Official Singles Chart, clocking 95.5 million streams and an estimated 1.53 million chart sales.

The most haunting melody from the star-studded soundtrack of the Great Gatsby (2013) movie is written by Lana and the iconic songwriter Rick Nowels. It ranked in the Top 40 in the US charts and at number four in the UK. The song recorded an estimated 593,000 in sales and 1 million digital downloads.

Born To Die

 

Born to die is inspired by Lana’s broken past relationship with her ex. Bradley Soileau was cast in the song's video due to his accurate resemblance to her ex-boyfriend. The nostalgic lyrics shot by Yoann Lemoine peaked at number nine on the Official Singles Chart and recorded an estimated 616,000 in sales. According to Billboard, the official album crossed 1 million copies in the US. It peaked at number two on the Billboard 200.

Lust For Life

 

Lust for Life was created in collaboration with songwriter the Weekend, and it is the title track of her fifth studio album by the same name. According to Uproxx, the haunting dark undertone song is inspired by the infamous suicide of actress Peg Entwistle, who danced on top of the famed H of the Hollywood sign In LA and then plunged to her gory death fifty feet below. The same has been depicted in Del Rey’s music video, which garnered approximately 22 million streams. The album was nominated for the Grammy Awards for Best Vocal Pop Album.

High By The Beach

 

The hit single sold over 248,000 digital copies in the first week and peaked at number seven on the Billboard Top 100 chart. The song clocked approximately 2.4 million streams in just a week of its release. A remarkable feat for a female artist, it is counted as one of the first digital hits of Del Rey from the 2015 Honeymoon album.

Blue Jeans

 

The trippy rock ballad from the album Born to Die is an ode to a love gone wrong with a bad boy. The music video pays homage to the 50s golden age of Hollywood with vintage cars and classic references. The song peaked at number 32 on the Official Singles chart and sold an estimated 402,000 units in sales.

Originally titled Young and In Love is the opening track from Lana’s fifth studio album, Lust for Life. It peaked at number 44 on the Billboard Top 100 chart and stayed there for two weeks. The song has recorded 246,000 sales in units.

West Coast

 

It was recorded for the third album Ultraviolence in 2014 and debuted at number seventeen on the Billboard Top 100 chart. The strumming guitar music is accompanied by a black-and-white video directed by Vincent Haycock. The sweet melancholy tune describes the struggle of being in love with two individuals simultaneously. It was nominated for the 2014 MTV Video Music Award for Best Cinematography. The song recorded 2.7 million streams and sold approximately 118,000 copies.

Venice Bitch

 

The psychedelic pop song was the second single released as part of the sixth studio album Norman Fucking Rockwell in 2018. The music video is directed by Del Rey’s sister Chuck Grant. The hypnotic single is shot with mixed footage and a collage of vintage lifestyle. It peaked at number 10 on the Billboard Alternative Digital Songs chart. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard Top 200 with an estimated 182,000 sales.

Lana’s original career hit that catapulted her to instant fame was the song Video Games, which debuted on YouTube in 2012. According to Discover Music, the song was shot on a webcam and edited by Del Rey herself, and it also features archived shots of LA with hypnotic vocal delivery. The song was inspired by her ex-boyfriend playing a World of Warcraft video game while they stayed in London. The song recorded 1.05 million in sales.
