Arbor Day is an international holiday which encourages everyone to plant trees. These stars and their fans are passionate about the impact that trees have on our world, and go above and beyond to ensure that our forests will be here for years to come.

Trees benefit everyone by helping to remove carbon dioxide from the air and releasing oxygen into the atmosphere – which is why some call trees "the lungs of the Earth."

Supermodels, YouTubers, K-Pop stars, and royals agree – planting trees is a good way to make a difference.

Gisele Bundchen

For her 40th birthday, model Gisele Bündchen wasn't satisfied with planting a few trees with her kids and her husband Tom Brady. Instead, she asked her friends and family help her plant trees all around the world.

“I feel like a whole new chapter of my life is starting, and I wanted to celebrate it in a meaningful way, so I decided to plant 40,000 trees," Bündchen explained, "I have been planting trees for different projects for years, as I feel that this is the best way I know to give back to Mother Earth.”

Stella McCartney, The Stella x Greenpeace

Designer Stella McCartney has long positioned herself as a socially conscious option in luxury fashion, but her new capsule collection aims to take that a step further by combatting deforestation in the Amazon.

The new capsule collection, which launched April 23rd, is a limited edition collaboration of conscious luxury pieces. It includes two T-shirts and two sweatshirts, and was created in partnership with Greenpeace. According to The Stella McCartney Cares Foundation, a donation will be made in order to support the Greenpeace campaign to stop Amazon deforestation.

Seo Taiji, World Land Trust

Seo Taiji, sometimes called the "the President of culture," is one of the most influential pop stars in South Korea, and has some of the most die-hard fans in the world. In 2012, a group called "Seo Taiji Mania" funded the planting of "Seo Taiji Forest" a part of the Brazilian rainforest, in his honor.

In 2016, the musician thanked his fans by funding the cost of planting more than 5,000 trees across seven and a half acres of former pasture. 120 different species of trees were included. The pop star named after his avid fan club – "Seo Taiji Mania Forest."

Meghan Markle & Prince Harry, Sussex Great Forest Tree Planting Campaign

Meghan Markle and her husband Prince Harry have consistently shown their dedication to conservation and sustainability, so it's no surprise that their fans would be committed to a cleaner world, too!

In 2019, fans, inspired by the couple started raising donations to plant trees in their honor all around the world, under the hashtag #SussexGreatForest (and sometimes #ArchiesWoods for their son.) The original goal was to plant 100,000 trees, but the group planted far more and kept on going.

While Meghan Markle and Prince Harry didn't start the campaign, they seem delighted to have been the inspiration for the trees being planted. The two responded on Instagram: "Huge thanks to the amazing group of people who have launched the grassroots Sussex Great Forest initiative. What a special surprise!... The aim of this project is to plant 10,000 trees around the world by donating globally and planting locally. We are so inspired! Thank you!"

MrBeast, #TeamTrees

YouTuber Jimmy Donaldson (AKA MrBeast) created #TeamTrees to celebrate his YouTube channel reaching 20 million subscribers. Their goal: to plant 20 million trees.

With the support of The Arbor Day Foundation, the group was able to plant each tree for just $1, meaning that for each dollar donated they were able to plant a new tree. This attracted the attention of the biggest names in tech and over 600 influencers and celebrities, including Elon Musk, Jeffree Star, PewDiePie, and YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki.

They reached their goal, raising $20 million dollars in under two months. MrBeast himself donated $200,002, keeping him at the top of the donation leaderboard.

Leonardo DiCaprio, The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation & Aspiration

When it comes to putting their money where their mouth is, few stars can compete with Leonardo DiCaprio on fighting the climate crisis. Protecting the Earth's forests is no exception.

The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation takes protecting forests seriously. Their project to restore Brazil's Atlantic coastal forest is to actually acquire the land so that it can be allowed to flourish, and the rare plants and animals that naturally live in the forests can return.

DiCaprio also invests ecologically. One of those investments is a climate-focused digital bank called Aspiration. The startup allows users to fight deforestation with their credit card – they will plant a tree every time a customer swipes. The bank has been picking up support, with big name backers like Robert Downey Jr. and C Publishing joining its users – allowing them to plant over 1 million trees every year.
