When the billion dollar, online platform OnlyFans announced that it would no longer allow securely explict content on their site, it was met with much umbrage from user and creators alike. Rapper Tyga, one of the platforms top creators, went as far as deleting his popular account because of the policy change. Now, he's looking to go toe-to-toe with OnlyFans by releasing his own, uncensored website called Mystarr.
Seeing how the performer was one of OnlyFans biggest creator, ranking fourth as he cashed in $8 million from viewers purchasing his monthly $20 subscription, it's clear why making his own platform might be a smart move. The deal for performers is tailored to offer a better financial opportunity that its London based competition.
When he took to Instagram to announce the project, advertising that only 10% of a content creator's profits would be deducted from the platform. OnlyFans takes 20% of money from it's creators. According to the platform press release, creators will also have the ability to sell their own NFTs through Ethereum blockchain - feature not provided by OnlyFans.
"I know how many people make a lot of money on OnlyFans, and that’s where most of their revenue is at,” the fourteen time platinum selling rapper explained to Forbes, “I want to give those people hope.”
Tyga goes on to points out that it's not just explict content that'll be featured on Myystar. From podcast hosts to music makers, creators of any medium will be welcome. The platform is set to be released in October with an invite only admissions process for creators.
OnlyFans chose to sanitize its content of explict content to appease banking partners and not diter potential investing agencies.
"In order to ensure the long-term sustainability of our platform, and continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans, we must evolve our content guidelines," the platform explains in its announcement, "We will be sharing more details in the coming days, and we will actively support and guide our creators through this change in content guidelines.”
Though the banning of serial videos and photos will be in effect starting in October, OnlyFans will still allow nudity on its site. Though only time may tell if the platform will stay afloat with its new Tyga backed competitor.
