Kanye West just dropped some serious cash on a new Birkin Bag for his purported girlfriend Chaney Jones. Ye picked up the “extremely rare” Hermès Birkin from a pop-up event by Privé Porter, a luxury bag specialist based in Miami —and it allegedly set the billionaire back $275,000.
According to Page Six, Jones’ new piece features silver metallic Chèvre leather with palladium hardware.
Sources say Jones was in Houston when the bag arrived, but FaceTimed Kanye on Tuesday so he could see her excitement as she opened it. The source also claimed that it was Jones, not Ye, who requested the Birkin first. She was allegedly asking for this exact bag, as it’s no longer in circulation and extremely rare —and everybody knows a rare Birkin is an expensive Birkin.
Most people would have to lift their jaws off the floor after seeing that insane $275,000 sticker price. However, Kanye is worth billions of dollars thanks to his Yeezy line and probably didn’t even check to see how much it costs.
Birkin Bags are the ultimate status symbol, and Kanye has a history of using them to show his love. In 2013, Yeezy surprised his then-wife Kim Kardashian with a $40,000 Birkin that he had hand-painted by American visual artist George Condo, who did the artwork to his timeless classic My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
Kim filed for divorce last February, but hopefully, she kept the gift because it's probably worth a fortune now.
The Luis Vuitton Don also gifted a Birkin to his last fling, Julia Fox, even though the bags are incredibly pricey, and they only dated for a few weeks. Not only that—Kanye surprised the actress's friends with a Birkin of their own on her birthday.
It seems like the only thing Ye likes to buy more than Birkin bags are mansions because he owns quite a few.
