After months of speculation, Piers Morgan has reached a deal with Fox News Media and News Corp owner Rupert Murdoch to join his media empire, the company has announced. The news comes after Morgan quit ITV's Good Morning Britain in March after receiving backlash for remarks he made aimed at Meghan Markle.

The multi-platform deal with News Corp. and Fox News Media will see Morgan host a new nightly television show and write columns for Murdoch-owned outlets The Sun and the New York Post. Morgan began his career as a freelance writer for The Sun in 1988. The financial aspects of the deal weren't immediately known, but the Independent reported earlier this year that Morgan the bidding war between Murdoch and GB News was worth £10 million ($13.7 million).

The wide-ranging deal also includes a book to be published by News Corp. subsidiary HarperCollins, and a series of true crime documentaries will also be hosted by Morgan.

"I'm thrilled to be returning to News Corp. which is where I began my media career more than 30 years ago," Morgan said in a statement. "Rupert Murdoch has been a constant and fearless champion of free speech and we are going to be building something new and very exciting together... I'm going home, and we're going to have some fun."

The move comes after Morgan stormed off the set of Good Morning Britain back in March after a tense on-air argument with his co-host Alex Beresford. During the program, Morgan had doubted the claims made by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, the couple's blockbuster interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which Markle revealed she had mental health struggles and suicidal thoughts. Morgan's comments sparked more than 50,000 complaints from viewers and prompted the UK's media regulator to investigate if he broke broadcasting rules on harm and offense.

According to CNN, Morgan's daily show will debut in 2022 and originate from London; the program will air weeknights in the United Kingdom on talkTV, a new channel announced on Thursday, as well as on Sky News Australia and the Fox News streaming service Fox Nation in the United States. The company will also sell it to other territories. Winnie Dunbar Nelson, who worked with Morgan on Good Morning Britain, will be the executive producer.

Morgan took to Twitter to confirm the news, which included a photo of him and Murdoch, who gave him his first big break. The two can be seen signing the deal, and Morgan wrote that it was great to 'go home' to Murdoch's News Corp., where his career started, after 28 years.
