Elon Musk has just made an announcement that is truly out of this world. Those without vivid imaginations and the ability to think outside of the box will surely have a difficult time wrapping their minds around this one. He has just announced that SpaceX is accepting payment by Dogecoin, forever changing the world of currency, and truly taking cryptocurrency to new heights. Elon managed to reveal this news with one interesting tweet, saying; "The 'DOGE-1 Mission to the Moon' will see a 40kg (88lb) cubesat built by Canada's Geometric Energy Corporation launch on top of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. SpaceX launching satellite Doge-1 to the moon next year - Mission paid for in Doge - 1st crypto in space - 1st meme in space."

People across the globe are stunned to hear of this update. Although Musks's dedication to Dogecoin is far from being a secret, putting this method of payment at the front and center of a space mission is beyond most people's wildest dreams. Space discovery and exploration is among the most sophisticated, technical endeavors that anyone can embark on. To see projects such as this one funded by cryptocurrency that was initially developed as being a meme, is hard to comprehend.

When Dogecoin was introduced to the world, it was launched as a "fun payment system" that was free from traditional banking fees. At no point did anyone believe this would be carried through as an acceptable form of payment for something as advanced as space exploration.

This news comes at an especially challenging time for Dogecoin. The valuation of Dogecoin has taken a huge hit in recent days, after Elon Musk made his hosting debut on Saturday Night Live and referred to Dogecoin as being a "hustle."

The Daily Mail reports that; "The cubesat, the first-ever commercial lunar payload in history paid entirely with DOGE, will launch on a Falcon 9 rideshare mission in the first quarter of 2022," and went on to say that; "Musk's tweets this year turned the once-obscure digital currency, which began as a social media joke, into a speculator's dream."

While much still remains to be seen in the advancement of Dogecoin currency, Musk has certainly launched it to another level and brought the use of cryptocurrency to the forefront of headlines across the globe.
