Drake has been on a high since the release of his new album Certified Lover Boy, and he recently celebrated by throwing an elaborate party at a Dave & Buster’s in Miami’s Dolphin Mall.
Dave & Buster’s is a chain of restaurants in North America whose locations are all outfitted with an arcade. It’s a classic favorite evidently even for celebrities like Drake. Hollywood Life reports that the party included a star-studded guests list, with rappers like Future, Alexis Skyy, and Yella Beezy making appearances. The outlet notes that Drake also invited 1,000 women to attend the party.
Drake reportedly footed the bill for the entire event. While it’s unclear what prompted the rapper to throw the bash, it was likely in celebration of his new album since he played hits from it the entire night.
The musician dropped Certified Lover Boy earlier this month after announcing it was upcoming in late August with the release of its first single, “Laugh Now.” The song has already been nominated for Best Melodic Rap Performance and Best Rap Song at this year’s Grammy’s.
Plenty of high-profile musicians make appearances on Drake’s new album, including Travis Scott, Nicki Minaj, Lil Baby, Young Thug, 21 Savage, Kid Cudi, Rick Ross, and Ty Dolla Sign.
Given the success of the new album thus far, Drake certainly had reason to celebrate at the Dave & Buster’s bash. Hot New Hip-Hop reports that the album has gone platinum after selling more than a million units three weeks following its release. It’s the fastest rap album to have hit this accomplishment in 2021.
It’s unclear how much Drake spent on the lavish party, but given that he had to rent out an entire Dave & Buster’s, the price tag was likely hefty. TMZ notes this isn’t the first major venue Drake has recently rented out, as it was previously reported that he managed to snag an empty Dodger Stadium for a dinner date with Johanna Leia in the summer.
In July, we reported that the couple was spotted after a passing helicopter managed to snap photos. The pair were seated at a dinner table near the third base that was decorated with a white tablecloth, flowers, and a large spread of food. Drake and Johanna even reportedly have a private bartender for the romantic evening.
The couple typically maintains a low profile, but sources at the time said they had been dating for close to a year. It’s speculated that Drake and Johanna met through LeBron James, whose son plays on the same basketball team as Johanna’s son.
