American Idol alum Avalon Young is seeking financial support from her family, friends, and fans amid her brain cancer diagnosis. According to People, the 26-year-old singer’s family set up GoFundMe campaign to cover the singer’s medical expenses.
In February, Young reportedly underwent a 16-hour surgery to remove a pea-sized tumor from her front left temporal lobe. However, the singer was recently told that she needs a second surgery on May 27 following weeks of radiation and chemotherapy.
Her GoFundMe page reveals that Young only has minimal insurance. And even though she made a name for herself during her stint in American Idol, she’s currently an independent artist.
“We hope to help her with some of the financial burdens as a result of these medical expenses. No amount is too little,” it read.
As of late, the singer already received over half of her $100,000 goal on GoFundMe. More specifically, her loved ones have already donated $56,669 for her brain cancer treatment.
Earlier this year, Young revealed how she found out that she has brain cancer. The singer said that in November, she started having “simple partial seizures.”
“Doctors told me it was my anxiety and gave me medications. Homeopathic doctors told me I had an issue with serotonin and gave me pounds of vitamins. I had bloodwork done, a QEEG, and an EEG and there was no sign of any problem with my brain,” she wrote on Instagram.
After getting an MRI, Young said that she was sent home feeling confident that her doctors wouldn’t see anything serious. But days later, she received a call from her physician informing her that she had a mass legion tumor on her left frontal lobe.
Earlier this month, the singer gave her fans a quick update about her cancer battle. She said that she thought she was on her way to a full recovery when her doctor told her that she needs another surgery.
“Unreal to receive this news at the age of 26. Everything is gonna be okay, the journey is gonna be wild, but I’m ready for it,” she wrote.
Young appeared in the 15th season of American Idol in 2016, Unfortunately, she was booted from the competition during the show’s Grammy Hits week.
Shortly after her appearance in the hit ABC reality singing competition, Young released a slew of music between 2016 and 2019.
Some of her tracks include “Overflow,” “To Me,” and “Black and White.”
