History Of The Chateau Miraval

Chateau Miraval was formerly owned by French pianist and composer Jacques Loussier but long before he owned the estate, it was the home to French nobility. The property used to house the French nobility in the 15th century as it served as the private residence of Orsini Prince of Naples during the time when he joined the French court. For the next four centuries, the massive estate was in the possession of the Orsini family. However before it landed on the ownership of the Orsini family, it used to be a host to cater the monastic practices back in 13th century.

The massive property is just a simple home it was not until 1850s when it was first used as a winery. It was the initiative which was led by the then owner of the property Joseph-Louis Lombort, who decided to build the main cellar. When the ownership was obtained by Jacques Loussier in 1970s, he decided to maintain the wine production. He also installed a recording studio in 1977 where prominent artists used to record including Sting, Cranberries and Pink Floyd. It was only in 2008 when Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie decided to buy the property after leasing the property for three years and exercised their option to buy the property. It was reported that the ex couple bought the estate for around $28 million.

Details Of The Property

The estate is a sprawling 1,000 acre of land which is located in the village in Provence. The 405 hectare property is massive which can fit all the luxuries one can expect for a celebrity home. Taking aside the vineyard, Chateau Miraval has several structures that even dates back to the 17th century including the Romanesque chapel where the ex Hollywood couple got married, a lake, olive groves, pine forest and moat. The estate has a main house which consists of about 35 rooms and has amenities such as spa, gym, home theatre, helicopter pad and indoor and outdoor pools.

Chateau Miraval is sitting on a figurative gold mine that produces quality wine as well as a variety of honey, olive oil and truffles. The estate also boasts an exemplary terroir which is perfect for organic farming. The winery is being run with a partnership with the Famille Perrine family who manages the terroir services as well as the farming of the produce and the distribution of the Chateau Miraval wines. The grounds of the estate house thousands of oak trees which foster the growth of variety of truffles, 3,000 olive tree which create abundant olive oil and hundreds of beehives that can produce enormous amount of honey. There is also around 60 acres of land allocated to the growth of grapes of Cinsault-Grenache-Syrah blend.
