Everyone has their ups and downs – even people with billions in the bank. While each has seen some gains this year, these three prominent businessmen have had an overall decrease to their net worth in 2013.
Larry Ellison: Down $2 billion
Though he has quite a cushion to fall back on, the CEO and co-founder of Oracle Corporation noticed a major hit to his net worth during the past year. With a current net worth of $41 billion, he is still the 8th richest billionaire on the list, but the drop of $2 billion over the year is a figure he would like to have seen reversed.
Carlos Slim: Down $5 billion
Although he still has a total net worth of $68.7 billion dollars, during the 2013 year Carlos Slim has seen this fortune stumble rather significantly -close to $5 billion was lost by Slim since March. Although the businessman and tycoon was considered the richest man in the world for several years running, the last year has seen Bill Gates take back the top spot.
Eike Batista: Down $10.4 billion
Eike Batista has had serious money troubles for the past two year. At one time the seventh richest person in the world, Batista’s $30 billion dollar fortune began to plummet in 2012, leaving him with $10.6 billion at the beginning of 2013. By October, that number had collapsed to $200 million. His spectacular fall came about as a result of his oil company OGX Petroleo’s oil reserves being far lower than estimated, leading to a huge drop in value that will likely bankrupt the company.
