Roger Ebert, one of the finest movie critics has passed away at the age of seventy. He succumbed to cancer. Roger was known for his amazing insights and sharp tongue. Rarely did he spare any director, actor or producer in Hollywood. But it was mostly taken positively, because what Ebert wrote and said was usually correct.
Roger was in good health, but his cancer had returned recently, causing him to take a break from blogging and writing movie reviews for magazines and newspapers. He would write that the vulnerabilities of his illness would keep him away from work often. But there were days when he would be so excited about writing a review of a movie, that he would often forget his illness. No doubt he was extremely energetic.
Roger Ebert lived in Chicago and was associated with more than two hundred newspapers. When he wrote, he did so ferociously. People from around the world waited to read his reviews before going to watch it. Ebert was never known for a thriving social life. His personal life was not interesting either. He was often seen at social events in Hollywood and elsewhere without a female companion. People thus wondered about the kind of person he was.
Ebert married for the first in 1993. He was fifty one years of age then. His wife was none other than Chaz Hammelsmith, the renowned trial associate. Roger is survived by her, one step-daughter, and two step-grandchildren. No doubt his presence is going to be missed a lot by the family and film fraternity. We are all going to miss reading the reviews he might have added after watching a film.
Ebert’s criticism was so famous that he was even awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1975. This made him among the best known film critics in the world. He is believed to have dated the television show host Oprah Winfrey once, and even encouraged her to go ahead and try syndication.
