Here’s some wonderful news for Tom Cruise. The wiretapping charge leveled against him has now been dropped. Tom had never wanted to fight a legal battle, but he still got himself entangled into several legal issues. He has been maintaining a low profile anyways since his divorce with Katie Holmes who left Los Angeles with her daughter Suri to live in New York City.
Michael Davis Sapir the editor of Bold Magazine filed a suit against Tom Cruise stating that he had been wiretapping his phone. Cruise was furious because Sapir had earlier alleged that Cruise was homosexual. He had even offered five hundred thousand dollars for proof that Cruise was gay. Cruise filed a defamation suit in 2001 that amounted to as much as a hundred thousand dollars. The matter was eventually settled outside the court.
Eight years later, Sapir claims that Cruise had actually spied on him with his wiretapping activities. The suit was turning out to be quite serious. So it’s a good thing that it is now dropped.
Tom has managed to get himself out of this mess. But there are still some other legal issues. He has filed a defamation suit amounting to 50 million dollars against Bauer Media, which claims that he abandoned his daughter Suri. Most fathers would be outraged by these claims. It is thus natural that Cruise filed the lawsuit. This case is still pending.
The actor has been receiving a lot of flak lately since Katie Holmes went away with his daughter. There are reports that Tom was not a good enough father and so Katie was compelled to take her away.
The Bauer Media Case is expected to go to trial sometime in 2014. Till then Cruise can rest easy and enjoy his days. Katie Holmes has been unavailable for comments on the lawsuit.
