Year after year, we exponentially continue to advance in almost all imaginable areas. However, sometimes we become so plugged to daily routines that we forget about the big picture. More precisely, we forget about what bad things could happen in the future if we don’t think of great solutions and take necessary action.
There are many things we should care about. Deforestation, pollution, the rising temperature, and a massive population are just a few problems that we face today and we need a way to correct them.
On the other hand, we have many ambitious people and organizations that care about our future. To understand what decisions we should make as a species, they, for many years, have been analyzing data and creating many solutions that would help us to overcome global problems.
Some of their solutions may seem ridiculous, requiring enormous resources and changes in our life, but all of these ideas work and, one day, could be used to save not only us but all other organisms that live on the planet.

15 Live Underground
If living on the surface becomes too difficult, we could always leave and colonize the underworld. It isn’t a completely new idea. Researchers in Turkey found an ancient and little-known civilization that lived underground hundreds of years ago.
While not every corner of this metropolis has been unearthed, researchers found that there were big enough corridors for carriages to go through, as well as living rooms and animal farms. According to scientists, these ancient people weren’t very advanced and were capable of creating this city solely by working hard.
Think about what we could achieve today, with all the technologies and knowledge we have... by using advanced digging techniques, special architectural designs, and volcanoes as energy sources, we could live as if we were living on the surface.
The only thing we need to do it is to start it.
14 Become Cyborgs And Robots
First, you should know the difference between cyborgs and robots. Cyborgs are partly human, partly machine organisms. While robots are completely mechanical creations and if robots are organisms, that depends only on your beliefs.
If we would become cyborgs or robots, we wouldn’t need to eat, sleep, and perhaps rest as we would only need to get more energy from energy sources. Also, mechanical bodies are much stronger and durable, so the danger of harm and death would greatly decrease.
Even if something would happen to your mechanical body, you would only need new parts. There is one issue: what would we do if everything would go so easily and, perhaps, forever?
You could learn and work non-stop, and that would allow you to have whatever you dream of. Sooner or later, the same activities may become boring, so there would be those who would decide to die on their own.
13 Create Time Traveling Techniques
Humanity made many mistakes in the past and perhaps will do so even more in the future. Some mistakes will be (or already were) so crucial that they will destroy us. To make sure it won’t happen, humanity always imagined what could be if we could change things we did in the past, or see what will happen in the future.
The possibilities are endless, from an exploration of dinosaurs to visions of what we will do in the future. However, some physicists suggest that we could only see, not change what will happen in the future, or what happened in the past because it would be a replica of our world - not our own world.
Also, if physicists are right, other timelines could be a bit different than our own due to small changes that could alter future actions.
12 Change Architecture
Many buildings we built today are based on the old architecture’s principles. They are costly, will soon become old, and require renovations and too much care. All of this only makes life more difficult for humanity.
Instead of wasting our time, energy, and resources on such buildings, we could build modern ones. Great examples of modern architecture are shown in innovative meetings where people challenge other groups by trying to create better architecture ideas than others.
While there are many worthy ideas on how to improve architecture, some of them are really important. For instance, an ability to self-repair, clean rainwater into drinkable water, store solar energy and grow food on roofs are amazing solutions we don’t use today.
If we would, every city would be a place for sustainable growth and advancement, rather than an exploitation of natural resources.
11 Find Aliens
Many films, video games, and sci-fi movies show aliens as dangerous creatures who want to eliminate humanity and use the Earth for their own needs.
Yet, if the aliens would be advanced enough to reach us, there is a high probability that they would have long ago realized that to go further, you need to unite with others. Alone is not enough, even if we speak about a civilization.
If so, they could help us to eliminate some of our problems, like pollution and deforestation, or give useful suggestions and knowledge about how to take care of ourselves.
Some scientists, however, believe that aliens have already visited us before. Strange artifacts, stories about flying saucers, and many secrets surrounding our past and present make them think that we are more or less influenced by aliens. Are they living among us? Good question. And if so, they definitely know how to hide.
10 Live Underwater
Almost 2/3 of the Earth’s surface is coated with water. Think of the deep of free space we could use. After all, oceanologists say that living underwater would be at first expensive, but a great solution for our species. We could use underwater volcanoes for heating, minerals for manufacturing, seaweeds and water animals for food, and water as an energy generator.
The only thing we should do to colonize deep oceans is to start looking for the best spot to do it, and build a good technique that would allow for the first underwater colonists to survive and build cities.
Later, more people could arrive, because the most difficult steps would be finished. We could increase the number of underwater citizens until they would be able to completely take care of themselves and maybe, one day become the primary point of help for people who would still live on the ground.
9 Become Digital
If the real world would become too difficult for us to survive, some scientists think that we should scan our brains and save them as if it was a computer’s file. Later, these “files" that would be all your memories would go to the digital world. (Like in video games.) You would decide what you want to do, what to become, how long you want to live, and who would play with you in the same digital world.
But there are some problems: who would like to stay in real life and take care of computers? What would happen to people if one computer crashed?
Also, we would need to have much better computers than we have today, as all memories and feelings every person experienced would take lots of space in computers. Moreover, we would need to create many digital worlds that would be enjoyable to everyone's taste.
8 Start Underwater And Space Mining
There are fewer resources left that would be easy for us to reach. Of course, we can recycle almost every material, but because our population grows, we need additional resources. Two places to get them are deep underwater and space.
Both of these places have enough materials we could use for further development, and these strategies aren't only mere dreams. For example, many space research and business organizations are now planning how to use resources from other planets and comets.
Also, there is already one big underwater mining machine that is ready to start its work. After all, sooner or later, we will need to explore new regions of the Earth and space, so why we shouldn’t start it sooner, and enjoy the benefits these resources would provide now?
It would allow people to have enough stuff to survive even the worst climate and continue to develop more great ideas like this.
7 Use Plastic-Eating Organisms
Every year, the USA alone creates 33 million of plastic. Only 10% of this plastic is recycled. Include other countries, and you’ll see that today, we have lots of plastic on the Earth. Where should we leave all of this?
The good news is that scientists found and created some of their own organisms that are capable of using plastic as food. This means that they not only can eat plastic, but they need to eat plastic to survive. Some of these organisms are mushrooms and worms that in different amounts, eat the plastic faster than you could eat a cake!
Today, too much plastic kills animals and, when it cracks into microscopic particles, contaminates drinkable water and damages our health.
To stop the damage caused by plastic, the researchers offered to use special filters that would be able to catch tiny plastic particles, so plastic-eating organisms could eliminate it in larger quantities.
6 Eat Insects
While most people look at insects as awful tiny monsters, in truth, they are healthy and often said to be tasty. Ancient Greeks, Romans and today’s people from Asia often eat various insects as a snack or an addition to a full meal.
Eating insects would not only allow us to have healthy and cheap protein source, but would also decrease energy and water shortage, minimize pollution, and give additional work to people. These are problems we have by raising bigger animals like cows and chickens that require more care and are less cost-effective than small insects.
Nutritionists believe that, at first, people wouldn’t eat insects because they aren’t accustomed to thinking of them as food. Yet, from the past we see that new food trends come very fast if at least a few people enjoy eating new products. One of the greatest examples are hamburgers, which quickly became popular all around the world.
5 Change The Earth’s Position
While there are many ways to change the Earth’s position, one of the most dangerous and interesting ones is to use asteroids and comets. The plan is to use cosmic ships to alter comets' and asteroids' movements, so they could fly nearby the Earth.
By doing so, these cosmic bodies would affect the Earth with their gravitational waves and without crashing into the planet. This would change its position.
However, as you may understand, such method would require making very careful calculations. Also, it would use a lot of money on building cosmic ships and catching enough cosmic bodies to achieve this plan.
But if there was no other choice - we could do it. If the Earth’s temperature became too high, we could move the planet further away from the sun. If the temperature would become too cold, we could move the planet closer.
4 Colonize Other Cosmic Bodies
As we become short of free space on the Earth, famous inventors, scientist, and business people urge us to be prepared for colonization of other cosmic bodies. Not only planets, but moons, bigger asteroids, and even huge spaceships that would be suitable to create cosmic colonies.
Perhaps the best targets for us to colonize are planets like Mars and Venus. They are close to the Earth, well researched and, by using modern technologies, would be suitable for us to live and expand small colonies into the first cosmic countries that would be big enough to take care of themselves.
If we would need to constantly travel, to create huge spaceships would be a more useful choice, as then we could travel everywhere we want as long as we would have the resources to do so.
These resources could be in a form of solar energy or cold fusion that is still being developed today.
3 Creating A Giant Space Umbrella
As the sun’s activity increases, temperature rises too. This means that some areas will experience more droughts, lower yield, additional living costs, and water shortage. To avoid this, some scientist and organizations offered to block a part of the sun’s heat and light.
The idea is to block about 2-4% of the sun’s rays to keep the planet’s climate as it is now. To do so, we need to create what scientist call a one big giant space umbrella (or many smaller umbrellas) and launch them into space.
The difficult part is that such umbrellas would weigh a lot, so the only way we could do it today would be to launch these umbrellas from the moon. To launch them from the moon, we would either need to create spaceships capable of lifting heavy weights and transporting these umbrellas before they would be completely built to make it easier to lift them from the ground.
2 Becoming Vegetarians Or Vegans
Decreasing how much meat we eat would be one of the greatest things we could do to stop climate change. According to scientists, to get the same nutritional value from plant-based products would be much cheaper than growing animals and animal products like eggs and dairy. The problem with animals is that only 10% of the energy they gain from food goes into their bodies, while plants use energy from the primary source - the sun.
This means that plant-based products would require less space and energy to grow than animal-based products. This would allow us to have more free space and decrease energy needs.
Also, many nutritionists say that we eat too many animal products, getting too much cholesterol and saturated fat that, after long periods, causes disease. Plant products have less of these, so they are great for those who suffer from diseases like cancer, heart problems, and high blood pressure.
1 Alter Our Genes
While most scientists concentrate on changing peoples’ behavior or the planet itself, some suggest that we should alter our genes. Geneticists believe that if we could do so, we could create a smarter population that could solve every difficult problem.
Furthermore, there are other changes we could make to help ourselves. Eliminating diseases-causing genes, decreasing calories need to survive, and becoming more resistant to toxins would allow us to stop many problems, like food shortage, a constant need to create new medications, and too little free space.
One of the most popular changes genetics want to implement is to make us smaller. If we would become smaller, we would need less food, space, and energy used for transportation, heating and other needed for survival areas.
Of course, this would cause many questions about what qualities in humans are good and bad, so it’ll take a time to decide what type of genes we should alter.
