If you've always wondered what became of some of your favorite reality TV stars, what they are hiding, or if those shocking rumors are true, keep reading to find out.
13 Jon and Kate Plus 8 - Cheating Scandal
One of the best parts about watching Jon and Kate Plus Eight was witnessing the tense friction between the married Gosselins. Fans chalked the tension and awkward fighting up to having eight children, because anyone with that many kids running around is bound to be a little stressed. However, fans were in the dark about just how bad things got until the couple's marriage problems became tabloid and reality TV fodder.
After the show reached its peak level of fame, the two began experiencing serious problems. Jon was accused of cheating on Kate numerous times with younger women towards the end of their marriage. It got so bad, that the two refused to even film together, causing the show to eventually change from Jon and Kate Plus Eight to just Kate Plus Eight. Talk about awkward. It turns out that their marriage ended up being a casualty of their reality TV show, and the two filed for what turned out to be a very nasty and lengthy divorce.
12 Duck Dynasty - Sexual Assault
It was revealed in his book that Jep Robertson, one of the famous sons on Duck Dynasty, was actually sexually assaulted as a young child. At just six-years-old, Jep claims he was aggressively sexually assaulted and taunted by a high school girl on his school bus. It got so bad that he actually faked being sick numerous times and missed school a lot that year. Eventually he was able to return to school and the abuse ended, and no charges were ever filed. Robertson only recently opened up about the traumatic experience.
11 Nineteen Kids and Counting - Child Abuse
The media was swept up into a frenzy when it was revealed that Josh Duggar, one of the members of the ultra-conservative family that starred in TLC's Nineteen Kids and Counting, had molested five girls as a teen, some of which were his own sisters. Not only that, but his parents were made aware of it and decided not to tell the police for over a year. Josh's punishment was being sent away to Christian organizations that focused on biblical teaching and redemption through faith and forgiveness, instead of jail time.
As if that weren't enough, two months after these horrifying allegations surfaced, it was revealed that Josh held an active account on AshleyMadison.com, the infamous affair website. After his membership was revealed, Josh, who is married with kids, claimed that he suffered from sex addiction and entered rehab for it. While there, numerous adult film stars came forward claiming Josh had paid them for their services. Seems like Josh has strayed far from his Christian beliefs.
10 Kendra On Top - Transgender Scandal
The tabloids jumped on an almost unbelievable story about Kendra Wilkinson's husband, Hank Baskett, cheating on her with a transgender model. It seemed unlikely that Baskett would be stupid enough to reach out to the transgender model, meet up in person, and think he could do it without being caught. Then his alibi for having met up with the model proved to be even more unbelievable. When confronted with the truth about the affair, he claimed he was trying to pick up marijuana. Baskett said he had received the address of the model's home from a random couple at a grocery store who had claimed that she had sold them weed.
Wilkinson, also of The Girls Next Door and Kendra fame, was eight months pregnant at the time and horrified to find out that her loving husband had been unfaithful numerous times. This ended the facade their reality show had created of the happy, perfect family they seemed to be.
9 Pretty Wild - Drug Addiction
Alexis Neiers was quite the troubled teen. She managed to snag her family a one-season reality TV show entitled Pretty Wild, before it came out that she was involved in the infamous Bling Ring of teens who burglarized celebrity homes. What's worse is that years after the show wrapped, she came forward and claimed she actually suffered from heroin and oxycontin addiction, during filming and throughout a majority of her teen years. She has since received help, but it was quite a shock for the legion of teen fans who loved her sass and rebellious attitude on the show.
8 Real Housewives - Federal Fraud
Teresa and Joe Guidice tried to claim innocence when it was first discovered that they were being investigated on fraud charges. However, the Real Housewives stars later changed their plea to guilty and each had to serve jail sentences for trying to hide money from the government. Despite publicly showing their affluence on the reality show, the couple actually thought they could get away with failing to file taxes and attempting to hide portions of their income.
Just goes to show that if you want to trick the government into thinking you have less money than you actually do, then you probably shouldn't sign up for a show that celebrates and focuses on your affluent lifestyle.
7 Little People Big World - Broken Family
Jacob Roloff, the 18-year-old son from Little People, Big World, is not such a fan of the show after all these years. He claims that the show robbed him of his childhood and that his now divorced parents, Amy and Matt, actually kept all the money he should've earned. After starring in over 9 seasons of the hit reality TV show, Jacob is now estranged from his family and a high school drop-out. Fans of the show will be sad to hear the damaging effect filming had on the family as a whole, especially on Jacob.
6 Chrisley Knows Best - Addiction & Custody Rights
Fans of Chrisley Knows Best, brace yourselves, because the family has some pretty serious drama off-camera. Kyle, one of the stars and son of patriarch Todd Chrisley, dropped out of filming for the show after allegedly claiming it was entirely scripted by his insane father. Meanwhile, Kyle has spent several stints in rehab for drug addiction. He also fathered a child out of wedlock and is currently involved in a custody battle over the little girl with his father, Todd. Kyle wants to regain parental rights and keep his daughter, Chloe, off the show, but Todd is fighting to keep custody and keep the girl on the show. Yikes! Seems like these two need some serious family counseling.
5 House of Carters - Substance Abuse
The Carter family (think Backstreet Boy Nick and pop star younger brother Aaron) scored their own E! reality TV show for a short while, which mostly revolved around Nick, Aaron, and their siblings, Bobbie Jean and Leslie, all fighting each other. However, there were much darker things happening than the sugar-coated reality show let on. Many of the siblings were struggling from substance abuse while the show was being filmed and sister Leslie tragically ended up dying from an overdose in 2012. Hopefully, the rest of the family members have since received help for their issues and have helped one another heal through a time of such devastating loss.
4 Nineteen Kids and Counting - Extreme Beliefs
It seems the Duggar's have so many shocking things about them that it's hard to keep track of everything. For those who don't know, the Duggar's are anti LGBT rights. The patriarch of the family, Jim Bob, has been outspoken against transgender rights bills that have come up in his state and he refuses to call transgender individuals by their preferred pronouns. The entire family also feels that homosexuality is a sin because it says so in the Bible. They also believe that the earth is only 6,000 years old, despite scientific proof that says otherwise.
These polarizing opinions, coupled with son Josh's legal troubles, forced viewers to call on TLC to cancel the show, which they did. The family got back on TLC with Jill & Jessa: Counting On, but finding advertisers that want to be associated with them has posed a challenge.
3 Here Comes Honey Boo Boo - Child Abuse
Fans of the reality show, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, will be horrified to find out the shocking secret that "Mama June" Shannon, the beloved matriarch, left her longtime boyfriend and fellow star of the show, Mike "Sugar Bear" Thompson, for a convicted child molester. Given the fact that Shannon has several young daughters, dating the convicted child molester, Mark McDaniel, poses some serious safety risks. As if that weren't bad enough, McDaniel was just recently released from prison after serving a ten-year sentence for molesting June's daughter, Anna "Chickadee" Cardwell.
As soon as TLC got wind of the relationship, the show was canceled immediately. June tried to redeem herself by doing numerous TV spots, but her reputation was ruined and she never got back in the good graces of her fan base. She is even rumored to have kept the money her daughter, Anna, earned for appearing on the show. Seems things weren't as sweet as they appeared.
2 Cake Boss - Covicted Brother
Sure, chef Buddy Valastro may seem all calm and family-oriented on the show, but that’s because he’s hoping the public doesn’t unearth the ugly truth behind his brother-in-law’s conviction of sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl. Child molestation is one of the worst and most heinous crimes imaginable and not only was his brother accused of doing so, he was also found guilty in a court of law for it, and is currently serving a nine year sentence. Remigio "Remy" Gonzalez, the accused, apparently tried to claim that his lawyer forced him into pleading guilty, but the court wouldn’t hear it. They refused to grant his request to withdraw his guilty plea from a few of the charges.
1 Keeping Up With The Kardashians - The Tape
Love the Kardashian’s or hate them, there’s no escaping their influence on pop culture thanks to their celebrated reality TV show, which came as a result of Kim’s sex tape with Ray J. However, fans will be shocked to find out that not only did mom, Kris Jenner, know about the sex tape, she helped make it go public. That’s right. She helped her daughter sell her body to help the family profit and boy did it work like a charm.
Evil genius or just pure evil, Kris was willing to do anything to get her family to the top. She’ll never win a Mom of the Year award, but considering the millions the family has made since, Kris won't mind.
