Television reality stars cover the gamut. From Jon and Kate Plus Eight to the Housewives of Orange County, the genre took hold a couple decades ago and is still going strong. In fact, many of the online participants have turned into celebrities just for letting the cameras roll around their somewhat "real" lives.
Each year, new reality show programs are aired and very few become discontinued. Americans still seem to be enamored with watching other people live their lives in front of a camera. Part of the draw, of course, is it makes the viewer feel better about their own life, as the shows tend to bring out the strangest dramas.
Some of these shows have produced some pretty big scandals, from murders to drug arrests. That's when the show's ratings are on the line. Is the scandal something that compels or repulses the fans? Will the media make light of or intensify the scandalous event?
The ten scandals we're bringing to light today run the risk of making you angry at the ridiculousness involved. Or you may find yourself so relieved that your own dramas are nothing compared to what happened to these reality celebrities.
10 Kitchen Nightmares: Gordon Ramsey Walks Out!
Amy's Bakery is the viral episode that made Ramsay throw up his hands and give up! This Scottsdale, Arizona restaurant was absolutely stumped as to why their business was not doing well and invited Gordon Ramsay to help "save" them from disaster. What Ramsay learned is that the owners, Samy and Amy Bouzaglo, were belittling and screaming at their customers. They also kept servers' tips and ridiculed employees. The episode went viral after Ramsay announced the restaurant was not salvageable. The Fox news report that came after: Samy had escaped drug and extortion charges in both France and Germany and who the heck knows what turned Amy into a less-than-social business owner.
9 Big Brother: Bigotry Caught Up To Contestants After the Show
Contestants Aaryn Gries, GinaMarie Zimmerman, Spencer Clawson and Andy Herren were filmed making cutting remarks throughout the season that ended up changing their own lives forever. Comments were made about homosexuals, other races, pro-Hitler notes and other pretty controversial subjects thinking they would never have to pay the piper. Being on a reality television show does not mean comments will be dismissed, people. Guess they forget that the viewing audience might include their employers, friends and the media.
8 The Real Housewives of New Jersey: Federal Fraud Charges for the Giudices
What were these people thinking? With high profile lives, the New Jersey stars Teresa and Joe Giudice have been indicted on 39 counts of fraud and now face a jail sentence. Bankruptcy, mail and wire fraud charges didn't stop the Bravo network from including the couple in the next season that was filmed in March. In fact, rumor has it that they will be featured along with all of their financial woes. So stayed tuned.
7 The Bachelor: Juan Pablo Galavis Doesn't Propose
The reality star got some pretty negative feedback when he gave out his last rose, but without a proposal. Nikki Ferrell was hoping she was "the one". Yet, by the time the season was ending, Gavalis stated that he had had it with the show's production team and was going to stop cooperating with them. However, we don't think his lack of a proposal to Ferrell had much to do with that. "You go on thinking if there is the connection, you propose," he told People. "But I don't feel there's a need to propose to somebody if I don't feel 100%. I didn't know Nikki. I want to know more, a lot more."
6 Toddlers & Tiaras: Paisley Dickey's Mom Goes Too Far
Is it appropriate for a 3-year old to be dressed up like a prostitute? Well, although this Toddler's & Tiara's mom is up-in-arms over the viewer and media feedback, the general consensus is that it was just wrong and in poor taste. In this photo, little Paisley is dressed in the same style hooker costume that Julia Roberts wore in the movie, Pretty Woman. What do you think?
5 The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills: Russell Armstrong Commits Suicide
Housewives of Beverly Hills' couple Russell and Taylor Armstrong were living the high life. During the show, Russell never let on that he was having disastrous financial difficulties, but he did have an edge of distraction and disinterest in the series whenever he was on camera. Taylor revealed to the other housewives that Russell was abusive and she finally took steps to separate, after breaking down several times on the show. During the season's filming hiatus, Russell was found dead after hanging himself. It was a blow for Taylor and created a new level of reality for the series. Days later, Russell's business associate, Alan Schram, was found dead. He had shot himself not far from Armstrong's.
4 Survivor - Pearl Islands: Jonny Dalton Lies About Grandmother's Death
Seriously, Jonny? Lying about your grandmother's death to win a reward and get team members to vote for you? We thought only school kids did that. He was quoted as saying, "I swear on my grandmother." Evidently this reality star was considered disgusting after his lie was revealed on a Jeff Probst recap show. Jeff Probst said that Jon, who “would show up at Tribal Council drunk,” “knows he went into the game as a villain, and he played it that way” and as a result “is one of the best villains we’ve ever had.”

Jenkins was a reality star from Megan Wants a Millionaire, which was cancelled after three episodes as soon as Jenkins was an alleged suspect.
2 Keeping Up With the Kardashians: Kim's Publicity Stunt Marriage to Kris Humphries
Did Kim Kardashian really need more money or publicity when she got involved with Kris Humphries, then engaged, married and divorced? Kim's former publicist confirmed that the whole series of events was nothing more than a publicity stunt. Evidently Kim had a change of heart two weeks before the wedding where she wore three wedding gowns and spent a small fortune on the festivities, but breaking the contract with E! network would have caused the reality star a lot of money. The same publicist stated that he helped Kim stage many a publicity stunts during the years he worked with her. We knew there had to be a reason she is still in the news.
