Do you believe in ghosts? You might if you see one for yourself...
Ghost stories have been around forever and have a massive following, including both skeptics and non-believers. There’s just something about the supernatural that people can’t get enough of. It might be the thought or comfort one gets from the idea of life after death, or it might just be the hair-raising feeling you get when discussing such anomalies. Whatever the case, paranormal activity seems to turn heads. Everybody’s heard a ghost story; whether it’s from a friend, family member, or just some Johnny nobody telling ghastly tales around the campfire.
Horror movies and shows about the supernatural have made quite the impact as well. This multi-billion dollar industry has been expoliting the idea of ghosts and demons for decades. With movies like The Exorcist, The Amityville Horror, Insidious and Poltergeist, it’s hard not to question the possibilities of ghostly encounters.
The mass popularity revolving around such occurrences has led to an ever growing list of ghost hunters. These fearless souls make it their business to shed some light on the discrepancies, proving once and for all that we’re not alone and that ghosts really do exist. However, these so called ghost hunters may not have the fame or recognition needed to convince the general public.
What about our favorite celebrities? Would you consider believing your favorite actor or musician if they were to tell you they themselves witnessed a ghostly encounter? Well, here’s a list of famous celebrities who swear they have encountered paranormal phenomenons first hand.
10 Ariana Grande
This young pop singer had quite the scare during her stay in Kansas City. Ariana Grande recounted the eerie story, which includes a trip to a haunted castle and a cemetery, in an interview.
The cemetery Grande and her friends visited, Stull Cemetery, is said to be one of the seven gates to hell; sounds like a great time, right? Not so much. Supposedly, on the car ride through the cemetery, Grande felt an overwhelming feeling of negativity and claimed that everyone in the car, herself included, could smell sulfur, which is said to be a sign of a demonic presence. Terrified by the thought of a demon making an appearance, Grande suggested they leave, but not without taking a picture first.
She claims that three distinct, demonic faces can be seen in the photo...
9 Katy Perry
During the video shoot for her new perfume line, Katy Perry reportedly freaked out and ran from her dressing room screaming at the top of her lungs. She claimed to have seen a ghostly figure of a man with a mustache staring back at her in the mirror.
It turns out the old French chateau-style mansion they were filming out of was rumoured to be haunted. This freaked Katy out even more, but the director managed to calm her down by promising to cover all the mirrors in the house.
8 Matthew McConaughey
The 2013 Academy Award Winner for Best Actor says he lives in a haunted house, but it’s not what you may think. Matthew McConaughy was supposedly visited by a ghost when he first moved into his Hollywood home.
The actor claims to have heard strange noises, so he grabbed a baseball bat and proceeded to search his home. However, shortly after meeting this supernatural entity, they became friends and everything was alright, alright, alright. He even gave the ghost a name - Madame Blue. If that’s not funny enough, McConaughey credits their friendship to his constant nudity.
This ghost story takes a much different path then most. American singer and song writer Kesha claims she had a sexual encounter with a ghost. She has spoken about the matter many times and is very open to the idea of supernatural beings existing.
Strangely enough, this sexual spirit scared and fascinated the eccentric star, who reportedly said: “It did scare me, but that’s part of the fun of it”. Her song "Supernatural" is said to be inspired by the whole incident, which took place at her house in Rural Canyon.
After purchasing her $11 million dollar home in Sussex, England, British singer Adele started having second thoughts. Shortly after moving in, Adele told one of her close friends that she thought the place was haunted, but with ten bedrooms and a 25- acre property, it’s very plausible that the “noises in the night” were just her imagination.
However, the property does have a religious history and used to be a convent, which would give reason for unsettled spirits. Not to worry, though; Adele’s female bodyguard moved into the house with her, and she’s even hired two additional security personnel to watch the grounds. Surely her new security team is well trained in the art of fighting ghosts.
5 Kate Hudson
Kate Hudson may have encountered a few ghosts while filming the horror movie The Skeleton Key: she claims to have seen and even spoken with spirits of the dead. The actress tells Hollywood News Daily that she and her mother both possess the ability to contact the supernatural.
She even gives tips on what to do if you encounter such spirits, saying you should tell them the day and year, reminding them they are dead and that they don’t belong among the living. With numerous encounters from faceless ghosts to the spirit of her grandmother, this Californian girl doesn’t spook easily.
4 Peter Jackson
Best known for his work on the world famous Lord of the Rings trilogy, Peter Jackson swears he saw a ghost at his apartment in Wellington, New Zealand. He tells his chilling tale to Britain’s Channel 4 TV, saying, "I woke up one morning and there was a figure in the room; she was very scary, she had a screaming face, very accusatory. She was a lady about 50 years old."
He goes on to say she disappeared into the wall shortly after leaving him shaken, questioning if what he had just seen had really happened. The story escalates further when he tells his wife Fran what he had seen, to which she replied, “Was it the woman with the screaming face?”
Jackson’s apartment building is situated opposite to the St. James Theater, which is said to be haunted by the ghost of a woman who killed herself after being booed off stage. She’s rumoured to have a screaming face...
3 Lady Gaga
Apparently the eccentric singer and song writer Lady Gaga is being stalked by a ghost named Ryan. She believes this ghostly spirit follows her all around the world; she even held a séance in Ireland hoping to get rid of the pesky spirit.
Gaga admits to being frightened by Ryan, but says she’s annoyed more than anything. Supposedly, this ghost-boy won’t leave her alone. There’s been no word of him doing anything violent, but his constant presence is enough to freak her out. Gaga has always been intrigued by paranormal activity, and has even spent money on top-of-the-line Electro Magnetic Field meters, but her stalker ghost Ryan continues to pester her...
2 Demi Lovato
This pop singer is also a ghost lover and claims her house in Texas is haunted. She speaks about her childhood home in an interview, saying the spirit of a little girl named Emily resides in the house.
1 Corey Taylor
Lead singer of metal bands Slipknot and Stone Sour, Corey Taylor has had so many encounters with ghosts that he wrote a book about it!
Entitled “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Heaven”, the book is filled with countless stories of the singer’s supernatural encounters. Corey has gone ghost hunting multiple times, where he gathered information for his book (he also did it for fun). His fascination with the supernatural started at the age of ten, when he and five of his friends snuck into an abandoned house in which he saw a ghost for the first time. Since then, he claims to have seen hundreds of ghosts and still continues to today.
