Ideally, couples who split should try their best to co-parent as a team. Countless studies have proven that children have more difficulty when coming from a broken home, so it’s the responsibility of the parents to make this transition as smooth as possible. However, many couples find it difficult to co-parent both in and out of the celebrity world.
From cheating scandals that push the drama onto the kids to petty arguments that put the kids in the middle, it seems like celebrities are just like regular people when it comes to figuring out how to make things work after a split.
Numerous dramas involving children tend to make it into tabloid headlines, regardless of the kids’ age. Recently, Madonna went on stage to unleash all her grievances with ex-husband Guy Ritchie, with videos that popped up on YouTube. Rocco is already 15 years old, but that doesn’t stop the baby drama from continuing to play out in the tabloids. While Madonna has full custody, Rocco made the decision to fly across the pond so that he could live with his father instead. As huge slap in the face to Madonna’s parenting skills, Guy Ritchie didn’t do anything to squelch the problem, and instead tried to get the custody ruling overturned in his favor.
And they're not the only celebrity couple that’s dealing with drama involving their kids- but many of them start at a much earlier age. Check out our list of 10 celebrities with the biggest baby drama, and see how their private issues have made it onto the public stage.
10 Antonio Cromartie
9 Britney Spears
8 Sandra Bullock
7 Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon
Since Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon "officially" split in 2014, the public is surprised that the two still aren’t legally divorced. Cannon has been romantically linked to a slew of different women, and Carey is even engaged to billionaire James Packer. While the couple seems to be trying to co-parent amicably, there have been a number of issues brought up in the public eye that have people wondering when this drama will finally end. While some celebrities choose to be ultra confrontational, Mariah definitely enjoys some underhanded shade.
Although the relationship between Ciara and Future came to an end, they continue to bring headlines due to the issues involving their son. Calling off their one-year engagement and splitting only weeks after the arrival of their first child, the case of "he-said she-said" seems like nothing will ever get resolved. In the meantime, Ciara has moved on with NFL player Russell Wilson, which has brought on a whole new debate.
5 Halle Berry
4 Kate and Jon Gosselin
When Jon and Kate Gosselin were first introduced to audiences through their TLC show, Jon & Kate Plus 8, audiences saw much more than just a family with a lot of children. Everything was scrutinized from the disrespectful manner in which Kate spoke to her husband to the way she wore her hair. Yet, fans stuck with the show because they were invested in all those adorable kids. So, when Jon’s extramarital affairs became highly publicized, people wondered how it would affect the family and the show. Not only did the two divorce, but the show was canceled to create the spinoff, Kate Plus 8.
3 Charlie Sheen
Charlie Sheen is no stranger to controversy, but many of his issues in the public eye have to do with his sexual relationships. From the infamous relationships with adult industry workers to opening up about being HIV positive, it’s difficult to think of Sheen as a family man. While he may not be considered a family man in the conventional sense, he is the father of five children with three different women.
2 Sherri Shepherd
As one of the favorite guest hosts from The View, Sherri Shepherd is known for her bubbly personality and comedic style. However, the public is starting to see a whole new side to this seemingly fun-loving celebrity. During her marriage to Lamar Sally, the couple used a surrogate to have a child using Lamar’s sperm. However, once the marriage dissolved, Shepherd did not recognize the baby as her own.
1 Sofia Vergara
During the marriage of Sofia Vergara and Nick Loeb, the couple created two frozen embryos containing Loeb’s sperm and Vergara’s eggs. There was a specific contract drawn up stating, “any embryos created through the process could be brought to term only with both parties’ consent.” While this seems like an open-and-shut case, Loeb sued Vergara four months after the couple split, saying that the contract didn’t specify what exactly would happen to the embryos. After their divorce, Vergara wanted the embryos destroyed, and Loeb wanted to bring these embryos to life.
In May 2015, Loeb sued for custody of the embryos, and even wrote an op-ed piece entitled, “Our Frozen Embryos Have a Right to Live.” This case has sparked huge debate, since it brings up the fact that Vergara will be financially responsible for the embryos if they are brought to term. This is made even more complicated now that she is married to Joe Manganiello, and they are currently starting a family together.
