We all love movie merchandise. Some of the many blockbuster movies have lots of cool things you can buy to show your fandom. For example, tee-shirts are always good. Some movies have hats, hoodies, and other clothes. Obviously, kids movies have toys released with the characters on them.
You can buy wallets, jewelry, and a host of other things with your favorite characters on them. Even in the grocery store, we see food and other products with characters on them. You can get your child a toothbrush with their favorite character. There are also body washes and bubble bath stuff. Some characters get their own cereals. Some get gummy snacks with the characters, or you can even get gummy multivitamins with a character on them. The year Frozen came out, we saw Elsa and Anna on EVERYTHING! In fact....they are still on everything! Yeah, it was a good movie, but it's getting to be too much.
Over the last few years, there have been a lot of superhero movies coming out. There are more on the way within the next few years. Many of us nerdy folk love to buy things with our favorite superheroes on them. I watch both the Marvel and DC comics movies. I just watched my Deadpool DVD this morning...even though I've seen it three times.
I also enjoyed Ant-Man. Paul Rudd is funny, and Ant-Man has a neat origin story. But, a major Marvel movie came out last week. Captain America: Civil War. It involves Captain America (obviously) and Iron Man in a huge fight.
With the release of this movie, I'd like to present some of the wackiest things that you can buy with a Captain America logo on them. These are the kinds of things that make you go, "Why do we need a character for this?"
10 Captain America Version of Sky Dancers
For those of us that grew up in the 90s, we all remember the "Sky Dancers" dolls. You pulled the cord and they spun through the air. By today's standards, they would probably be considered dangerous. You could hit people with them if you are not careful enough. One reviewer said the cord was a little hard to pull, but someone else said it made a great gift for their nephew, age seven. This just makes we want Captain America to add wings to his costume. That would be hilarious!
9 Captain America Waffle Maker
Yes, you can make waffles with the Captain America shield design on them. I've also seen these with Frozen, Star Wars, etc. on them. This is actually a genius idea for kids. As an adult, part of me kind of wants it. I love breakfast food, and I love nerdy things. This would be perfect. But, it does seem like an odd thing to put a character logo on. From the product description, the waffles are about 7 inches across and about 1/2 inch deep. The non-stick surface works very well according to one reviewer.
8 Driver Cover
I guess this might be cool if you like golf. There are covers for different kinds of clubs on Amazon. Golf seems kind of boring to me, but I guess this a neat way to show off your fandom. It is made with synthetic leather and is waterproof. The design is embroidered on. I guess this might be Marvel's way of making money off of adult fans. It is supposed to protect your driver from scratches and dings. No one has reviewed it yet, so I don't know anything about how durable it is or if it covers drivers well.
7 Superhero Serum Novelty Bottle
If you have seen/read Captain America, you will know that Steve Rogers, now Captain America, got his powers from being injected with a serum. We later find out that the serum was designed by Tony Stark's father. The project was called "Weapons Plus," and it was part of the Manhattan project. Captain America was frozen in ice for several decades, and he was unfrozen a few years ago. The first Captain America movie goes into this in more detail. The liquid in it is colored water. It is made of real medical-grade glass.
6 Captain America Gardening Set
I guess this is for kids to play outside? I know some kids dig holes. I guess it could be used at the beach to play in the sand. I guess I find it odd seeing a superhero logo printed on gardening tools. I typically wouldn't expect to see garden tools as toys, but I guess this could be a good idea. It doesn't have any reviews on Amazon right now, so I wonder if this is selling well. Maybe some kid out there will enjoy it, and learn to enjoy gardening.
This is interesting. The movie is family friendly, but I guess we can have adult toys with the comic book characters. I wasn't expecting this one. It looks like a nice knife. It would probably be a good hunting knife....maybe... Just don't get it for your kids. One reviewer said she loved it, but she lost it. It is currently unavailable, and we don't know if it will be in stock again soon. It is nine inches long with a four-inch blade.
4 Creepy Sleep Mask
This isn't so much wacky as it is creepy. They have another mask that has a picture of Iron Man and Captain America. But, this one is weird. I don't want to put Chris Evans' eyes in front of mine. Sleep masks can be useful, but find one a little less creepy. I guess you can fantasize about being a superhero when you go to sleep. It is reversible, too. It's got a light-colored, flowery design on the other side for some strange reason. It doesn't have any reviews. I doubt this will sell well.
3 Air Purifier
This would be very cool in some nerd's house. I don't know about paying $200 for this, but I'm sure someone would be interesting. It has multiple speeds and an easy to use interface. But, this is not something I would expect to see a character on. The same seller also has Captain America air fresheners for your car.
Not going to lie, I totally want one of these. I'm an adult, and I totally would put this in my room. It is kind of wacky to pair the Minions with Captain America, but I imagine someone is making a fortune off of these. It makes sense. The Despicable Me and Minion movies have done very well. So, I guess it makes sense to combine two of the biggest movies of the year. There are other Minions things with superhero costumes. I have one on my key ring of a minion in a caveman outfit, but that was actually in the Minions movie.
1 Hello Kitty
This is kinda creepy. This is another case of combining two brands that sell well. Hello Kitty is a Japanese cartoon. So, it seems kind of odd that they would put a superhero on her. But, I find this pretty cool, actually. I love to see toys and merchandise that break traditional gender roles. I hope girls that love Hello Kitty might also enjoy superhero movies. This is an embroidered velcro patch that you can put on hats, backpacks, and other things. I have even seen Hello Kitty combined with Darth Vader. So, I guess Sanrio is branching out on their merchandise.
