Game Of Thrones: 10 Facts To Get You Ready For Season 6

If you have been living under a rock for the past few years, you may have missed watching the epic Game of Thrones.  If you, like the most of the rest of the world, have been checking it out, then you simply have to be excited for the next season.

The show is of course based on George R.R. Martin's best-selling book series "A Song of Ice and Fire". While many of us thought we never would be drawn into something like a  medieval fantasy epic, we were wrong.  Game of Thrones appears on HBO, and a new season is coming up soon.  The show focuses on the powerful regional families, and all the people that surround them. You will see kings and queens, criminals and knights, heroes and horrific villains, bastards and noblemen,  not to mention a whole lot of naked women. All of these people are part of a deadly game to control the region of Westeros, and to sit on top of the Iron Throne.

The show has been ridiculously successful, and each season has been as good, or better, than the last. Fans of the show, and there are many, are thrilled the next season is about to begin. Last season ended with Stannis dying, Arya being blinded and Theon and Sansa on the run. What can be expected in the new season? Read on to find out.

Here are 10 things you need to know about the 6th season of Game of Thrones.

10 There Will Be A New Sorceress

The smoking hot Melanie Liburd will be appearing on the show as the new Red Priestess. Her role will be different than the old Red Priestess, Melisandre, which is a good thing, since Melisandre really made a huge mess of things. Melanie will be an additional Red Priestess though, not a replacement, so things could get interesting. Melanie has appeared on Dracula and CSI: Crime Scene investigation in the past, and will keep up the Game of Thrones tradition of having some of the hottest actresses around on the show.

9 Is Jon Snow Really Dead?

He has to be right? I mean we all saw him die, and it was horrible. Oh so horrible. But maybe not. His photo is on the promotional material after all, and why would they do that unless they were just trying to cruelly manipulate all of us. They wouldn't do that...would they? Far more telling though is that word is actor Kit Harrington, who plays Jon Snow, has been seen in Belfast where most of the show is filmed and reportedly has even been seen practicing lines. It seems kind of manipulative, but we all love Jon Snow, so we would give them a pass on this one.

8 The Show Starts In April

via youtube.com

HBO has announced that Season 6 of Game of Thrones will start in April of 2016. The exact date for the premiere appears to be April 17, but of course if you miss it you will get about a hundred chances to see it over that first week. Also kind of odd is that on the new season promo material they are using a photo of Jon Snow, one of the true heroes of Game of Thrones, who died in season 5 after being fatally stabbed, but more about that later.

7 More Scenes Will Be Filmed In Dorne (AKA Spain)

While the majority of the show is filmed in Belfast Ireland, a lot of the show last year was shot in Spain. It has been reported that more and more places in Spain will be used this year, including the Bardenas badlands in Navarre, the castles of Santa Florentina and Zafra, Almeria's Alcazaba, Girona, and Peñiscola. This is relevant because Spain is where the scenes in Dorne take place in Game of Thrones. So if you like a bunch of hot women who fight well, you may be in luck.

6 The Plot Will Not Be Based On The Books

Of course since Game of Thrones is based on a series of popular books, viewers of the show that read the books always knew, for the most part, what was going to happen on the show. But not anymore, for the first time the TV show has caught up with the books, and is moving ahead of it, plot-wise.  The writers of the show are still talking to author George Martin or course, but this time they are all working together to do a blueprint that works not only for the show, but for the upcoming book. Needless to say, the results of this should be interesting.

5 The Three-Eyed Raven Is Coming Back

via www.youtube.com

As we all know, the three-eyed raven is associated with Bran, who was missing from season 5. The word is the raven will be back this year and will be "played" by Oscar-nominee Max Von Sydow. The raven appears to Bran multiple times in his dreams, in an attempt to guide him to his father. And what does the three-eyed raven have to do in the series if there is no Bran? Read further down to find out.

4 Freddie Stroma Will Join The Cast

via www.hollywoodreporter.com

Freddie Stroma has signed on to be the newest member of the Tarly family. He will play the brother of Samwell, named Dickon.  There isn't much about Dickon in the books, but remember this season is the first to race ahead of them. All that is really known is that Dickon is younger than Sam, and that he is a bit more capable, physically, so it will be interesting to see how it plays out. Stroma is known for his roles in the last three Harry Potter movies, and also from his role in the show Unreal.

3 Ian McShane Is Joining The Cast

This one has people a bit excited. Why? Well because it is Ian McShane!  The star of Deadwood has signed on for a mystery role.  And you know what that means, we have nothing more to tell you about it. Which would be boring of course, but hey it's Ian McShane! This English actor has been around forever, but Deadwood really put him over the top, and now that he is to appear in Game of Thrones, people are excited. We don't know who he will play, but we know it will be good.

2 Bran Is Back

via www.tvguide.com

Well, as you probably already guessed, if the three-eyed Raven is back, so is Bran. He was one of the biggest story lines right from the very start, but suddenly in season 5 it was like he ceased to exist.  That will change though as the actor that plays Bran, Isaac Hempstead Wright, has confirmed that he is going to be back. "I can't say a lot but I am back this season, and it's going to get particularly interesting with Bran," he told the Irish Examiner. "He has some interesting visions."

This development should be interesting, as Bran went from perhaps the biggest story line, to an afterthought in season 5.

1 Arya Is Blind

via winteriscoming.net

As you may recall in the last episode of season 5, Arya broke a bunch of rules and defied the Many Faced God. He didn't like that a whole lot and made her blind. Well apparently she will continue to be sightless in season 6, at least for a while.  Actress Maisie Williams commented on how uncomfortable the contacts she had to wear were to make her look blind, and that she had been doing some training so she would do a better job at appearing blind physically. Just when you thought Arya was going to be okay, it appears that things might even get a bit worse for her.
