When we were children, adults warned us about the dangers of drinking and smoking. We saw frightening pictures of damaged livers, hearts and brains and then, vowed to never indulge. Fast-forward 10 years later, young people are faced with temptation and begin to have urges of wanting to experiment with drugs. When young adults leave home, at times, they can be motivated to do what society or what “the streets” are doing around them. In short, every human being faces the pressure of “fitting-in."
Some people understand how to use drugs with caution and in moderation, but other people can go over-board and will have a slew of life-threatening problems awaiting them. Celebrities seem to have a tremendously difficult time staying sober. They must deal with the pressures of fame and the responsibility of money. People indulge in drugs for various reasons. Some people have the fear of being boring in social settings and want to appear easy-going, while others may be suffering from physical and mental anxieties and desire quick solutions.
Nevertheless, alcohol and other drugs can be used for an occasional good time or can lead someone into a rehabilitation center due to abuse. Drugs can give an appealing illusion. A drug-of-choice that provides a temporary relief from an undesirable situation can seem miraculous at first, however its user often wants its euphoric effects for a lifetime. Facing a problem head-on is the only way to solve it and many find that a harsh truth to bear. Alcohol and other drugs can give someone an interesting story to tell their children, but it’s best to view controlled substances and other potent things in a mature manner.
