Hollywood is well known for its reputation of short-lived romances and quick-fire marriages. Relationships are hard enough without your every move placed under scrutiny by the world press. Just one solemn shot of two celebrities both leaving a restaurant with their heads down will see tomorrow's headlines scream that they are heading for splitsville. The chances of survival in a Hollywood relationship? Next to zero.

There are many explanations celebrities come up with for splitting up: long working hours, not ready for a relationship, they want to focus on their career or they didn't have the time. But on many occasions the real truth behind the breakup is that the pressures of fame just became too much for them to cope with.

Often we find celebrities ranting about the "unfairness" of fame. Unfortunately when you become a household name around the world there is no easy way to just switch off the spotlight. Some big names can find that they have to risk it all for their career which can also include putting a personal relationship at risk. Here is a list of the unlucky few who allowed fame to destroy their relationships.

10. Usher and Tameka Foster

Usher and stylist Tameka Foster were married for two years until they split in 2009. When the "OMG" singer was asked in an interview with O magazine what his biggest mistake was he replied, "Getting married at 28". The couple were under a lot of pressure as Usher had to constantly appear single in order to keep his hoards of female fans happy. For any wife - this would be a bit too much to take.

Foster told The Grio magazine, that she was not happy with how the entertainment industry had affected their marriage. She said, "The pressure of the entertainment industry began to slowly creep in and poison our marriage. There comes a point when as a married man with throngs of adoring female fans, you still have to pretend you’re available, but he wasn’t available… and that began the problems.”

9. Robin Thicke and Paula Patton

Infamous "Blurred Lines" crotch-shaker, Robin Thicke, first fell in love with his wife, Paula, when they were just fourteen-years-old. Their marriage ended abruptly after nine years with the blame solely placed on Thicke's music career. It appeared that Mr Thicke had a problem when it came to understanding just how a married man should behave.

He was caught cavorting with young women which included one photograph surfacing of him grabbing a girl's bottom in a nightclub. Paula filed for divorce in 2014. In order to try and win his wife back, Thicke released an album titled "Paula" which included tracks such as "Get Her Back" and "Love Can Grow Back". Unfortunately, this cringeworthy appeal did not work and the album flopped after it sold less than 50,000 copies worldwide.

8. Hulk and Linda Hogan

Linda and Hulk Hogan had been married for twenty-six years before they agreed to sign up for the reality TV show Hogan Knows Best. Hogan who was a household name in the 90s as one of the most recognizable wrestlers in the world had become a superstar overnight once again. Sadly, the show shed a light on their marriage which turned out to be anything but perfect.

Their son, Nick Hogan, was charged with four criminal charges after being involved in car accident and he was sentenced to eight months in prison. Then in 2007, Hulk began an affair with a 33-year-old model Christiante Plante who was a close friend of his daughter, Brooke Hogan. Their marital problems and family issues received so much press that the only option was to divorce and both step away from the limelight.

7. Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson

There can't be anything more painful to the male ego then watching your wife storm the world and become more famous then you ever were. That was the situation Nick Lachey was faced with after he starred in reality television series Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica in 2003. The show ran for three seasons and Jessica Simpson's "dumb blonde" loveable personality made her a household name worldwide.

After the show Jessica went on to re-release her album "In This Skin" and landed the lead role of Daisy Duke in Dukes of Hazzard (2005) which co-starred Seann William Scott and Johnny Knoxville. What did Nick do? Well he just sat at home on the sofa watching his wife constantly appear on entertainment news. Not content being "Mr Jessica Simpson" he divorced his wife in 2005 and his new album is out this November - if anybody really cares.

6. Kris and Bruce Jenner

Well this was really just one car crash waiting to happen thanks to Kris Jenner's desire to consistently market her own family. Since Keeping Up With The Kardashians first burst onto our screens in 2007, the cracks in the Jenner union have been very clear for all to see. A TV special was aired earlier this year where the warring pair could air out their grievances in an episode titled, "About Bruce". Bruce had accused Kris Jenner of treating him badly and not putting his needs first.

Why did Kris abandon Bruce's emotional needs? Perhaps he just wasn't marketable enough. Instead she devoted her full attention on her daughters, carving out a path for them to become rich and famous. Soon her desire to continuously exploit the privacy of her family became to much for Bruce and they announced their separation in 2014. Since then Bruce Jenner had gender-reassignment surgery and is now known as a woman by the name of Caitlyn Jenner.

5. Kit Harington and Rose Leslie

Kit Harington and Rose Leslie probably fell for each other whilst shooting their sex scenes as Ygritte and Jon Snow in Game Of Thrones. The couple were rumoured to have split in late 2014, the explanation would most likely be that Leslie no longer appears on the show and Harington was away shooting on remote locations for months on end.

It may also be tough for any girlfriend who has to cope with their partner becoming recognized as one of the most desirable men in the world. This couple would make fans of the show very happy if they announced they were back together. It appears the last thing they need is the pressure of paparazzi and the press following their every move.

4. Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake

Of all the complaints about a relationship, Justin Timberlake really had the most bizarre one when he was interviewed by Vanity Fair magazine in 2011. When questioned about his 13 month long relationship with Britney Spears he said, "We could literally go, ‘Oh, man, let’s go to Bali,’ and we’d be on a plane to Bali. We were little kids with big toys. You do the math – that’s not going to last." Sounds like the perfect relationship to us, JT!

It appears that too much of the high life was why pop's favourite couple finally called it a day. They had an incredibly high profile relationship and couldn't go out in public without a thousand flashbulbs in their faces. There were also rumours of Spears cheating which prompted Timberlake to create the track "Cry Me A River". In the video a Britney look alike had revenge served cold when her boyfriend, played by Timberlake, can be seen cheating in retaliation. We doubt the pair are still on talking terms.

3. Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson

Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson had one of the most photographed relationships in showbiz. However, it was a single photograph that saw the end of them after Kirsten Stewart was caught by paparazzi cheating on her Twilight co-star. Stewart was constantly vocal throughout the relationship in expressing her hatred for the media and that the couple struggled to cope with all the attention.

The relationship came to an abrupt end when Stewart was exposed by US Weekly in photographs that were taken of her kissing the director of Snow White and the Huntsman (2012), Rupert Sanders. She admitted to the affair and released a public statement which included an apology to Pattinson. She is now rumoured to be in a same-sex relationship with her best friend, Alicia Cargile.

2. Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck

Late last year, Jennifer Lopez confessed in her autobiography True Love, that when Ben Affleck broke it off with her it made her feel as if her "heart had been torn out." The couple who were dubbed "Bennifer" by fans, called off their engagement in 2004 after years of intense media scrutiny. They had planned the perfect wedding but Affleck finally said no to a life as tabloid fodder and called everything off.

As Lopez mended a broken heart, Affleck moved on swiftly to actress Jennifer Garner and they married in 2005. Lopez then moved on to marry Latino legend Marc Anthony but they separated in 2013. She also speaks in her book about how she doesn't want to become "the girl who has everything but can't get love right." Maybe her next love interest will be the one that sticks around.

1. Madonna and Guy Ritchie

There are two sides to the Madonna and Guy Ritchie divorce - his and hers. In 2008, the couple split after eight years of marriage. In an interview with Newsweek magazine, Madonna said she began to notice that her marriage had "cracks in the veneer". She accused the British director of also being "cold" and "withdrawn" throughout the marriage.

From Ritchie's point of view he claimed that their marriage had become a "soap opera". It would not come to a shock to anyone that being married to Madonna would come with a lot of press attention and scrutiny. The Snatch director could no longer take it and he re-married model Jacqui Ainsley in 2010 who appeared to be more suited for a low-key profile.
