Jada Pinkett Smith kicked off her new talk show on Facebook by interview Will Smith’s ex-wife.
Pinkett has a new talk show on Facebook called Red Table Talk, featuring herself as well as daughter Willow Smith and mom Adrienne Banfield-Norris as co-hosts. The show advertises itself as an inside look into the lives of the Smiths all from the view of a round red table--hence the name.
The first episode is entitled “Motherhood” and has a very special guest: Sheree Fletcher, Will Smith’s first wife.
It’s a ballsy move to bring your husband’s ex on a talk show, but over shared glasses of what is almost certainly mimosas, the two mothers open up about their blended family and how their at-first tumultuous relationship eventually became a truly loving one.
"So 'ree, this is the first time to sit down together and talk about this blended family situation," Pinkett says to get the ball rolling.
"The beginning between us was rough," she soon admits, recalling how she began dating Will while he was still technically married to Fletcher.
“Because I did not understand marriage, I did not understand divorce, I probably should have fell back,” Pinkett Smith says to a short pause, after which Fletcher jokingly replies, “You think?”
After a few moments to calm down, Pinkett Smith continued. "I feel like when Will and I first started dating I had this thing in my mind that--you did that, and that's done," she says before Fletcher cuts in.
"Oh, you thought it was done?" Sheree snarkily replies.
Pinkett screams. "Right! That part! That's where I was wrong,"
Jada and Will met on the set of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and began dating in 1995. Although at one point the subject of Jada and Will’s relationship was a sore point between the two, it was Fletcher and Smith’s son, Trey, who eventually brought them all closer together.
While recalling the first time Trey met Pinkett Smith, Fletcher gave a tearful recount of their first meeting. “So Trey comes home and I said, ‘How did you like Miss Jada?’ He said, ‘I really liked her, Mommy.’”
"Thank you for loving my baby," Fletcher told Pinkett Smith earnestly while the two held hands.
