American comedian Tyler Perry actually engaged in a bidding war with Jay-Z and Beyoncé's six-year-old daughter Blue Ivy Carter last week.

The 48-year-old producer, director, and screenwriter found himself in a heated battle with the couple’s oldest child at the 2nd Annual Wearable Art Gala auction over an acrylic painting of Sidney Poitier and seemed to consider himself quite lucky to come out on top.

Perry, who was promoting his latest film, Acrimony, on the TODAY show on Thursday morning, recalled the event and described what it felt like to bid against a child. He claimed not to know who was bidding against him at first but later discovered that it was none other than Blu Ivy, who kept taking the paddle from her dad’s hand to raise it.

“Somebody else was bidding against me. I didn’t know how it was,” he said. “I look over and it’s her. She’s taking the paddle out of Jay’s hand and Beyoncé’s hand and she’s bidding.”

The actor says that Jay-Z jokingly tried to stop his daughter from bidding on the item at one point, but he eventually won the painting for $20,000, beating Ivy’s last $19,000 bid. Ivy, who is said to be an art fan despite her tender years, did successfully bid on the next piece that was up for grabs, winning it for $10,000.

“I’m like, this kid’s not outbidding me today. You gonna learn today, little girl. I’m getting this painting,” he added. “But Jay-Z actually pretended to pull it out of her hand and stop her bidding. But it was for charity so it was for a great cause. I got the painting. I could not be outdone by a six-year-old.”

Perry was voted the world’s highest paid man by Forbes Magazine in 2011 after earning $130 million between May 2010 and 2011. We imagine he would have little trouble beating a six-year-old to a painting at an auction, yet this isn’t your ordinary six-year-old.

Blue Ivy Carter is one of the most privileged children around, and the fact that she was even at such an auction speaks volumes to her family's wealth. Beyonce gave birth to the growing art enthusiast back in 2012, following an unfortunate miscarriage about a year prior. Since then, the music icon gave birth to twins, with second daughter Rumi Carter and son Sir Carter being born last July.

Of course, Perry was never going to let himself get beaten at an auction by a child, yet things could have turned out very differently if hip-hop mogul Jay-Z had stepped in or pushed his daughter to take it further. At the end of the day, though, it was for a charitable cause, so nothing against a bit of competition there.
