Sarah Jessica Parker is being sued for not holding up her end of a multi-million dollar jewelry deal.
The former Sex in the City star is having a busy time of things lately. Her HBO dark comedy Divorce was nominated for a Golden Globe award last year and since then she’s been hard at work for the upcoming second season.
Unfortunately for SJP, she seems to have forgotten about some of her other commitments. Or maybe she overcommitted? That’d be a very Sarah Jessica Parker thing to do.
Parker is being sued by internationally renowned jewelry designer Kat Florence for breach of contract. In October of 2015, Parker and Florence signed a deal to promote a new line of Kat’s jewelry while also working together to develop a special line of high-end accessories named after SJP. Parker also agreed to help with the opening of three luxury shops in Europe and appear personally to open at least one of them.
The deal was worth $7.5 million metered out over the 5-year span of the contract.
However, according to legal documents obtained by TMZ, the deal began to break down almost immediately after it was signed. Soon after the contract came into effect Sarah Jessica Parker began work on her show, Divorce, and said that she wouldn’t be able to fulfill any part of the contract for five months while the show was filming.
The documents go on to say that after filming the first season was completed, Parker continued to promote her own branded line of products while refusing to fulfill her obligations with Florence to create a jewelry line with her. She also failed to attend the launch of the Jewelry store Florence opened in London, saying she was simply too busy to make room in her schedule.
As a result, an SJP jewelry line never launched and the London store was eventually forced to close.
Florence is seeking unspecified damages. Sarah Jessica Parker has yet to offer comment.
