Ryan Reynolds Downplays Possibility Of Deadpool 3

Though Ryan Reynolds is in full promotion mode for Deadpool 2, he doesn't seem to be completely on board for Deadpool 3.

The actor recently told Entertainment Weekly, "I don't know that there would be a Deadpool 3. I really don't."

"I feel like the character, in order for him to function properly within his own universe, you need to take everything away from him," he added. "I don’t think that you can keep doing that."

Reynolds, who is fully-versed on the character’s arc, including his alter-ego, Wade Wilson’s cancer diagnosis, human experimentation, and loss of his girlfriend, may know more than the rest of us. However, Deadpool belongs to a bigger universe. In Deadpool 2, he meets mercenary Cable, played by Josh Brolin, who is joined by his fellow mutant warriors, known as The X-Force. The key may be that Deadpool’s future lies with his fellow superheroes.

"I do see him as being a part of X-Force, obviously," Reynolds said. "I would love to see him in a team-up sort of thing, like a mano a mano or [with] a great female character from the X-Men universe."

The actor believes a third film would be a return to basics, saying, "I just think if you’re going to do another Deadpool solo film, you’ve got to really, like, get that budget down to nothing and just swing for the fences. Break all kinds of weird barriers and do stuff that no one else can do."

"Why do they all have to be big comic book movies?" he added. "It could be anything. Deadpool could be a Sundance film."

Deadpool 2 began filming in June 2017. In January 2018, Reynolds signed a three-year deal with Fox, which included the development of a live-action adaptation of Clue, the board game, written by Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

The budget for the original Deadpool was $58 million, relatively small in terms of Marvel movies, though reports say Deadpool 2 had no monetary issues, which allowed the film to cast new actors, such as Brolin, as well as former co-stars Morena Baccarin, Brianna Hildebrand, Leslie Uggams, T.J. Miller, as well as Zazie Beetz, as Domino, and Terry Crews as Bedlam. Deadpool 2 also features Julian Dennison, Bill Skarsgard, Lewis Tan and Rob Delany.

Though as fans know, money talks, so in the future of Deadpool with Ryan Reynolds will probably only depend on dollar amounts. Reynolds is set to join the upcoming X-Force movie, written and directed by Drew Goddard. Deadpool 2 will debut on May 18, 2018.
