Just this past July, it was revealed that actor Miles Teller was going to appear in what was then known as Top Gun 2. While the title has now changed to Top Gun: Maverick, Teller is still committed to the film. He was cast as the son of Nick "Goose" Bradshaw—or if you'd prefer, the son of Maverick's (Tom Cruise) best friend in the original film. While the movie is still being filmed and not expected until June 2020, glimpses of Teller's new physique are already sparking plenty of buzz.
According to Men's Health, the Divergent and Whiplash star was spotted leaving a gym with arms that are drastically more muscular than before. This dramatic difference in the actor's body was the first that many spotted, as Teller is typically slim and somewhat lanky. His new muscles weren't the only physical change Teller's undertaken for his role in Top Gun: Maverick; his once brunette hair is now light blonde, and he also has a mustache that helps him better resemble Goose.
This isn't the first time Teller has had to bulk up for a role. Back when he played a boxer in 2016's Bleed for This, the actor had to work with both a nutritionist and a trainer to reach his goal of 168 pounds and six percent body fat. His nutritionist had him ditch alcohol and cheat meals, while his trainer put his body through the ringer for the next five months. His workout routine consisted of a five-mile run to warm up, as he needed better cardio for a role that had him rolling around in a ring. Next, Teller would spend about four hours shadowboxing, focus pads, heavy bag, speed bag, and jump roping. Then two hours of weight training would follow, followed by running through scenes for an hour, and concluding with some much-need physical therapy.
It's not known if Teller employed the above tactics to bulk up for Top Gun: Maverick. However, it wouldn't outrageous if that turned out to be the cause. If Teller could get into fighting shape once before, it's obvious that with his tried and true tactics, he can easily do it again.
