In a rare interview, Lindsay Shookus reveals what it’s like dating Ben Affleck.

Most people have never heard of Lindsay Shookus except in relation to her famous boyfriend. That’s the way she prefers it. Shookus likes to make other people famous rather than share the limelight herself. As a TV producer, she’s helped on shows like 30 Rock, but she does most of her work on the iconic late-night sketch show, Saturday Night Live.

Since the age of 22 (she’s 37 now) she’s been involved with the production of SNL in some form or other, working her way to becoming the top producer for the show back in 2012. Shookus is responsible for hiring such stars as Kristen Wiig for the show and booking up-and-coming singer Sam Smith.

But most people know her name in relation to her significant other, Hollywood A-lister Ben Affleck. In a recent interview with Elle, Shookus gave a tiny insight into what it’s like dating fame and catching some of it second-hand.

"It’s strange to me", Shookus said. “My entire career has been behind the camera, and that’s definitely where I’m most comfortable. I’m a producer, I’m a mom, a friend,” she says, politely dodging the question.

“Being considered a public figure honestly makes me laugh.”

It apparently took Elle a lot of convincing to do the interview and getting her to say anything more about Affleck was simply a non-starter. She made it clear that she considers the fame and all its trappings to be “just one of life’s normal annoyances.”

Shookus had more to say about being a mom while working on a show with one of the tightest schedules around. When Shookus took over the job of top producer after Marci Klein left (Calvin Klein's daughter) she also received some big news not a few days later: she was pregnant.

“Within the span of five days, I found out that I was taking over the department and also that I was pregnant,” she said. “I was in a pure panic. Both of those things I’d wanted for so long—I just didn’t imagine it all happening at the exact same time.”

Somehow she managed to work 14-hour days right up to the moment her water broke. She recalls on that particular night, “I remember Lorne looked at me and was like, ‘You going to the party?’ I was like, ‘No, Lorne. I’m gonna go have a baby now.’”

That’s a dedicated working mom.
