Kim Kardashian Gets Imprisoned Grandmother Out Of Jail

Kim Kardashian West’s mission to free Alice Johnson has come to a close as she successfully got President’s Trump clemency for Johnson.

The case of the 62-year-old mother, grandmother, and also great-grandmother got Kim’s attention after she watched a video of Johnson from prison. In 1996, Johnson was convicted for taking part in facilitating communications in a cocaine trafficking operation in Memphis, Tennessee. She was sent to prison with no window for parole even though it was nonviolent and her first offense. When one of Johnson’s co-conspirators testified against her, she got 25 more years added to her sentence. The great-grandmother almost had no chance to get on the other side of the bars. For more than two decades behind the bars, Johnson has been such a great example for other prisoners. She was granted permission to participate in a program to hold video conversations with people outside of prison. Her story reached Kim Kardashian West and ever since, the celebrity has tried to use her fame to do revoke Johnson’s lifelong sentence.

Kardashian was trying hard to advocate for Johnson’s release. She trusted high-powered lawyer Shawn Holley and a team of attorneys to help with her case. Kardashian West also spoke on the phone with President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner about a possible presidential pardon for several months. The TV personality mentioned that more changes should be made in the American legal system and Johnson’s case was one glaring example. The discussion was presented to the President and soon enough, a meeting was set up. On May 30, 2018, Kim Kardashian West arrived at the White House to discuss prison reform and the case of Alice Johnson. At the end of the meeting, the reality star said she was optimistic that they'll see Johnson's release.

On June 6, 2018, The White House agreed to sign Alice off and she will soon be released from the Aliceville Correctional Facility in Alabama. After more than 21 years of imprisonment, she will return to her family immediately, TMZ reported. Kardashian West took to Twitter to celebrate this wonderful news.

Kardashian tweeted a statement to thank everyone who has contributed to helping this release possible. The star said that this news brings hope to many people. She mentioned in another tweet that she wishes to continue to get involved in activities regarding prison reform.

Kardashian also shared that she was the one who broke the news to Alice Johnson. And Johnson’s reaction was gold!

Congratulations to Johnson and her new-found freedom, and thank you, Kim Kardashian, for fighting for the little guy!
