Oprah was on The Late Late Show and made James Corden cry almost immediately.
Last night, James Corden had the cast of Disney’s A Wrinkle In Time on his show, which just so happens to include the Queen of All Media herself, Oprah Winfrey. And Corden immediately began the interview by addressing Oprah’s almost witch-like power to make anyone cry at any time.
"My worry when I woke up this morning is I don't know if I can make it through this interview," Corden said while pausing for breath, "without crying."
This got laughter from the audience, naturally, but the former talk show host does have an incredible ability to induce tears from anyone she speaks with.
"Because you seem to have an unbelievable gift,” Corden continued. “Even now I can feel myself tearing up. When did you first realize you had this power just to make people cry?"
Oprah explained that she discovered her awesome power while working as a journalist in Baltimore. "You wanted that moment where you could have someone be open, be vulnerable enough to have an intimate connection and cry," she said. "Now I try not to get people to cry. I withhold the powers."
Reese Witherspoon was also on the show and related to Corden that she lasted about five minutes before crying on Oprah’s talk show. “I just started weeping," Witherspoon admitted while Oprah recalled it was over a former teacher from her youth.
Then, Corden made the mistake of turning to Oprah and saying "unleash the power." Oprah turned to him, reached out to his shoulder, and began.
"Charlotte, Carrie, Max," referring to Corden’s three children he has with wife Julia Carey. "Once on my show a father said, 'Every father has a dream for his children,'" she said, and immediately Corden began tearing up.
“Oh shut up,” he said in an adorable British accent, but Oprah heedlessly pressed onward.
"'And his deepest regret in life will be if he doesn't fulfill that dream for his children. What is the dream you hold in your heart for Charlotte, for Max--"
"Who are you?!" Corden exclaimed.
Undeterred, Oprah squeezed Corden’s shoulder. "What is the dream you hold?" she asked.
"I just want to feel like this every day," Corden replied.
It was both heartwarming and kinda eerie. Check it out in the clip below.
