Jake Paul is a name that keeps popping up all over social media these days. The attention has people wondering who in the heck is this guy and why is he famous. Many have been confusing him with his famous brother who made headlines for controversial reasons earlier this year, but they are two different people.

Jake is the younger brother of Logan Paul, who was a famous YouTuber earning the big bucks. However, after he posted a controversial video of himself in what is known as Suicide Forrest in Japan Logan was suspended from YouTube for the incident and lost a lot of advertisers. The backlash from one-time fans was harsh and critical.

What people may not realize though is that Jake is actually the more controversial brother. Both boys rose to fame by becoming social media influencers, thanks to the no longer existent Vine. By the time the platform shut down, Jake had over 5 million followers who watched all of his prank videos.

During his popularity on Vine, Paul secured himself a role on the Disney Channel show, Bizaardvark. The show was a perfect fit for the then 19-year-old as it was about two teenager pals who post songs and video on the Internet. Bizaardvark lasted three seasons, but Jake left the show during season two.

Although a statement from Disney and Paul said the decision was mutual, news reports soon surfaced that his pranks, parties, and fire hazards in his neighborhood of Beverly Grove caused severe problems. It is believed his horrible actions were the cause of his departure from the show, as Disney likes their stars to have a more clean-cut image.

Paul had anything but a boy next door image at the time, especially when it came to his neighbors. After he Tweeted out his address and large mobs of fans showed up, his neighbors allegedly went to the city council about filing a class action suit against him. Later Cobra Acquisitions, the company that owned the house he stayed in sued him for $2 million.

At the same time, he was dealing with all the neighbor drama Jake dropped a music video that fans did not like at all. "It's Everyday Bro: is known as the most disliked video on YouTube. Oh yes, he set a record for basically the worst video ever on YouTube. The footage initially started his downward spiral as he those who had never heard of him before now knew his name.

He continued to post videos, apologizing for the hate he had been receiving, but never for being out of control, reckless, selfish, and entitled merely because he had Internet fame. It was as though he saw nothing wrong with his actions and people were not happy. Plus, his attempt to further redeem himself by showcasing how upset his costars were when he left Bizaardvark. Yet, despite the initial mutual statement put out by Disney and Jake, he later shared he was fired from the show.

Months went by, and Paul continued to post content without really any attention. However, that all changed last January when he posted the video titled "I Lost My Virginity." As you can guess by the title, the content was deemed too much for a younger viewing audience, most of his followers are in the teenage demographic or younger. Plus, there is a thumbnail picture of Jake and his girlfriend at the time, Erika Costell, with very little clothing on.

YouTube and its advertisers began to reevaluate the relationship they had with Jake. But that didn't stop another racist, sexual, hatred video from coming out. However, this time Jake did not release it. A celebrity website got a hold of it, and the YouTube once again came under fire

Jake Paul has been attempting to stay out of the spotlight due to all the controversy of the last year. It was working too, until fellow YouTuber Shane Dawson released and eight-part docuseries about the stunt, pranking influencer. It is all part of Dawson's venture into exploring the lives of social media influencers. The series is earning backlash after Dawson refers to Jake as a sociopath.

The new series earned Paul an outpour of sympathy from people, especially online. He has thanked fans for their support. Since the episodes started airing, he's has opened up about his turbulent childhood and crazy stunt antics he pulled growing up in Ohio. Not everyone is a fan, but the tide might be turning for him.

It is unlikely Jake or his brother Logan will even be big name TV or movie stars, but they are indeed still having their 15 minutes of fame.
