In shocking Grey’s Anatomy casting news, two beloved stars are set to exit at the end of the current season.
Jessica Capshaw and Sarah Drew have been let go of the hit ABC show and fans are not happy about it. In two separate social media posts, each actress shared the news she was leaving Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. According to Deadline, the decision was made by producers not to pick up the options for Drew and Capshaw, which means Arizona Robbins and April Kepner are out.
“The characters of Arizona and April are permanently woven into the fabric of Grey’s Anatomy thanks to the extraordinary work of Jessica Capshaw and Sarah Drew. As writers, our job is to follow the stories where they want to go and sometimes that means saying goodbye to characters we love. It has been a joy and a privilege to work with these phenomenally talented actresses, ” shared executive produced by co-showrunner Krista Vernoff.
Shonda Rhimes shared the impact these two characters had on the show, as well as reiterate their departure was strictly storyline related. However, both statements did very little to stop angry fans from taking to social media. There were accusations the reason Capshaw and Drew were being let go was to accommodate Ellen Pompeo’s $20 million dollar salary. Both Pompeo and Vernoff used social media to deny such crazy claims and reminded fans to be respectful.
Life will soon be over for Sarah Drew and Jessica Capshaw on Grey’s Anatomy but one of them has already landed a new home. It was announced Drew has been cast in the Cagney & Lacey reboot. She will play Cagney, who was originally played by Sharon Gless. Drew has already started filming the pilot.
As for Capshaw, she has remained relatively silent on social media after announcing the news she was being let go from Grey’s Anatomy. However, considering how talented she is, there is no doubt fans will see her again.
There has been a lot of love for Capshaw and Drew since news of their characters exit was announced and not just from fans. Their castmates used social media to express how much they would miss each one of these fabulous ladies.
Grey’s Anatomy will not be the same without Robbins and Kepner.
