Isaiah Silva, Frances Bean Cobain’s ex-husband, has filed a civil complaint claiming her mother, Courtney Love, planned to have him murdered in order to recover Kurt Cobain’s guitar. His allegations also name Love’s manager Sam Lutfi, 13 Reasons Why actor Ross Butler, detective John Nazarian, Yan Yukhtman, and musician Michael Schenk as co-conspirators.
Silva accused the motley crew of burglary, robbery, sexual battery, kidnapping, attempted murder, criminal threats, false imprisonment, extortion, stalking intentional infliction of emotional distress, and trespass, according to People magazine.
The lead singer of The Eeries, an American rock band, retained the 1959 Martin guitar played by Cobain during Nirvana’s 1993 MTV Unplugged performance as part of the divorce settlement. Silva claims that Lutfi, Butler, and Yukhtman “entered into a criminal conspiracy to commit trespass, burglary, home invasion robbery, assault, battery, kidnapping, and murder,” in an attempt to take back the guitar on June 3, 2017.
According to the complaint, the group also planned on kidnapping him to “end any potential legal claims [he] may have to the Curson property, the Willoughby Trust, and any spousal support.” Adding that Nazarian and Schenk “did assault and cause physical injury to Silva’s mother while in Silva’s presence and with the intent of terrorizing and intimidating Silva.”
The three men then allegedly forced him into a black Cadillac Escalade at which time, a friend of Silva’s, who was in the singer’s home, called 911. When the police arrived, Lutfi “hurriedly concocted a false story intended to prevent LAPD from arresting them,” Silva says.
The complaint goes on to allege that Lutfi acted as a drug dealer, supplying his ex-wife and her mother with “illicit benzodiazepines,” adding that Butler, who appeared on season 1 of Riverdale, “acted as a courier for illicit drugs supplied to Love and Cobain” before fleeing to Canada.
During the divorce proceedings, Cobain relinquished her father’s guitar after Silva claimed she gave it to him as a gift. Cobain had argued to keep the guitar but ultimately the judge sided with Silva.
Cobain inherited 37 percent of her father's estate in 2010, which entitles her to control the publicity rights of her father’s name and image. Although she likes the Nirvana songs Territorial P*ssings and Dumb, Cobain has confessed that she’s not a fan of the band. Following her divorce, she began dating The Ceremonies’ singer Matthew Cook.
