Grant Gustin has hit back at fans who have been criticizing his body following the leak of a photo showing him in a new test costume for the upcoming fifth season of The Flash.
The leak, which surfaced on Tuesday and can be viewed below, created quite the stir among supporters. And, while some seemed happy with the classic design, others were harshly critical and noted how thin the star looked in the novel suit.
Gustin has since taken to Instagram to respond to the stick he has been receiving over his body, branding the leak a "bulls**t photo" while defending his physique in a strongly-worded post.
"As far as the body shaming, that's what pissed me off," he wrote. "I've had 20+ years of kids and adults telling me or my parents I was too thin. I've had my own journey of accepting it. But there's a double standard of where it's ok to talk shit about a dude's body."
Gustin added that he tries his best to stay in shape and has taken certain measures to put on a bit of weight but acknowledged that he's simply naturally thin and his appetite is also affected by stress.
The vitriol coming from the fans is rather strange given that The Flash has always been portrayed as a lean character with a rapid metabolism. And the claims that he's too thin to play the character are certainly out of place.
The 28-year-old actor, though, has declared that he's comfortable with his body type and he's also loving the new suit he will be wearing in the next instalment of the hit show. He's also promised fans they'll love it too when they see the entire thing.
"I'm happy with my body and who I am and other kids who are built like me and thinner than me should be able to feel the same way," the post continued. "Not only that, but they should be able to feel like THEY could be a superhero on tv or film or whatever it may be someday. I love the suit that has been designed for me, and I think when everyone sees it in its entirety, you will love it too."
