Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson will finally be working with John Cena outside of the ring, with the Hollywood star announcing that he's recruited the future WWE Hall of Famer to star in a movie he has been working on.
Johnson revealed that he will be producing the movie The Janson Directive along with his company Seven Bucks Productions, who have partnered up with Universal Studios to bring the Robert Ludlum novel to life.
Ludlum, a famous crime writer, is the author of the Bourne Series starring Matt Damon. Now, Cena is set to play ex-Navy Seal Paul Janson in the upcoming film.
Found my star! Congrats to my good bud John Cena on landing the lead role for our movie, THE JANSON DIRECTIVE. A project that myself, @sevenbucksprod, our production partners and Universal Studios have been developing for years now. Congrats man and I’m excited to go on this journey with you. Thank you for your commitment to the role and remember, as your producer if you screw up, I’m coming to set and droppin’ the People’s Elbow on ya. And you know first hand how devastating my elbow drops can be 😉💪🏾 Congrats my friend and let’s go make a good one. #JansonDirective #JohnCena #SevenBucksProds #CaptivateEnt #WeedRoadPics #MythologyEnt #UNIVERSAL
"I found my star. And the star of Janson Directive is going to be my good buddy, John Cena," The Rock said in an Instagram video this week. "I've known John for years, he's so excited to play the role, I'm excited for him, he's committed."
"Our history goes way back. We once wrestled a 45-minute Wrestlemania match and at the 15-minute mark the top of my quadriceps and my adductor tendons were ripped from my pelvis," he said. "Excruciating pain, I couldn't feel my legs, had to wrestle for 30 more minutes. Afterward, John comes back with two shots of moonshine, says, 'Here, this will kill the pain.'"
Johnson and Cena are two of the biggest stars to emerge from the WWE in recent times, but they did not always see eye to eye. The "People's Champ" has previously revealed they had real issues with each other back in the day, but they have since put the beef behind them.
Cena took shots at The Rock for supposedly turning his back on the WWE to focus on acting, but he's had his own share of starring roles since then, so knows exactly how things work now?
The Rock's upcoming movie isn't likely to capture both him and Cena on the big screen, yet it's very likely that the pair will appear in films together in future. Both these men are accomplished wrestlers; and while Johnson is way ahead of Cena in the acting business, the Blockers star could someday be on par.
