Cindi Broaddus, the sister in law of Dr. Phil McGraw, has died aged 68.

Broaddus is the sister of Dr. Phil's wife, Robin. While her obituary was published in The Duncan Banner, her cause of death was not declared.

Broaddus was a survivor of an acid attack which happened 17 years ago. According to Women for Hire, the then 52-year-old was still reeling from losing both of her parents within a few years of each other and having a marriage end when the awful incident occurred in 2001.Broaddus was travelling in the passenger seat in a friend's car when she suddenly found herself drenched in the corrosive substance after an assailant threw a gallon off of a bridge and through the windshield. If Broaddus had been wearing sandals instead of sneakers which protected her feet, doctors wouldn't have been able to inject her with morphine and she would've died. 70 percent of her body was burnt, requiring over 12 surgeries.

Broaddus went from being an advertising salesperson on a local cable station to support her daughters to writing A Random Act, explaining her ordeal and raising awareness for other victims. Throughout her life, she gave talks on her experience as an acid attack survivor, even appearing on Dr. Phil's show in 2002 and 2005. "Being a victim gets you nowhere," she said. "Make every day count. We are all here on earth for some reason."

Dr. Phil's wife Robin McGraw took to Instagram to share heartfelt memories of her sister.

"I am reposting @branlo35 post,” she captioned it. “I am so proud of you and Angela and Shelli. We are all heartbroken and will miss her every day. She was our hero. You 3 all made her life a dream. She lived every day for her daughters and you always made her the happiest woman ever! I will celebrate her and her strength and her unwavering support for me the rest of my life. I miss her dearly."

Broaddus was buried on Feb. 23, 2018, on what would've been her 69th birthday and is survived by three daughters, grandchildren, and siblings.
